One of the ingredients used in poker chips for a long time has been powdered metal. Of course we all want the leaded chips, but brass powder has been used too. I have seen the brass in some chips I've cleaned in the past, but I recently picked up a really cheap set of chips. The only problem is the brass powder in the yellow chips has oxidized into spots of verdigris. The good news is that they can be cleaned. It's not a 100% reversal but I'd call it 95+%.
This comparison pic doesnt really capture the "before" appearance as well as the naked eye. The method I used is to make a paste of baking soda and vinegar, coat the chip and let it sit half and hour or so, then use a toothbrush to lightly scrub the chip, using my thumb to cover and protect the stamp. Its not fast, although you could make as much paste as needed.
