I made my annual trip to Vegas the week of Dec. 9-15 with father-in-law and brother-in-law. We stayed downtown at The D on Saturday and Sunday nites, then stayed on the Strip at Planet Hollywood thru the week.

--Weather was great, mid-60s during the daytime, awesome for walking the Strip and Fremont Street.

--First losing trip in six years….started out winning pretty big (for me anyway) downtown at The D and Golden Gate playing blackjack, paigow and ultimate holdem (+$800), lost a little at $2-4 limit at Golden Nugget. Then I had an absolute terrible run of luck on the Strip for 4 days losing at most table games. Lost some at $2-4 limit at Flamingo and won a little at Planet Hollywood $1-2 NL….played a couple small tournaments (Flamingo and PH) but my good hands like A-A and A-K got crushed. All totaled, lost about $500. Got healed a bit the last night playing blackjack at Cromwell (3:2 on BJs) but could have been better had the dealer not pulled four 21’s against my big double down bets. Oh well.

--Did some chip harvesting….picked up 50 Caesars $2’s, 120 Golden Nugget $1’s, and 160 Flamingo $1’s. Some pics and more details posted in chip harvesting and chip pron threads.

--Probably won’t stay at PH again (usually I stay at the Flamingo)….never got acclimated to PH, didn’t like how dark the casino is and didn’t like the floor layout….kept getting ‘lost’. Just had no luck there although that really was just how the cards went, not the casino’s fault. My room was OK, but nothing special….it was an ultra hip room and I was led to believe it was bigger and nicer from reviews. Downtown was a blast (winning helped) and would like to stay downtown a majority of the time on my next trip.

Now a few pics.....

Paulson chips at the D:

Oversized Golden Gate Free Play Chip and The D Match Play chips....cleared $70 using these. (The $500 chip is for size comparison).

Won my first ever purple chip (43mm), playing Ultimate Holdem. I was in for $200 and cashed out $700.

Demo work continues downtown at the Las Vegas Club.

My well-worn starting chips at Flamingo tournament.

The sportsbook at Caesars; the poker room is behind the electronic boards where the game lines are posted.

Won 2 and lost 2 sports bets....this was a winner that was memorable because GB rallied from a 21-7 deficit and then covered the spread with a win in overtime against the Browns.

Leon Spinks was at a table inside Planet Hollywood doing some promotional work for a memorabilia company. I still remember watching the Spinks-Ali fight in '78 during college, watched on regular network TV free of charge...that wouldn't happen today.

That $500 is legit!

Did you happen to keep one of those green match play chips from the D? If so, is it avail for trade?I have their purple one but not the green one.

No. Thought about keeping it but used it instead. They are new, cuz the pit boss asked me about it and said she hadn't seen one. I made $20 off the 2 I had....still wondering if I should have kept one.

man, that $500 is pretty.

i got my first taste of ultimate hold em last time i was in vegas. was a pretty fun time-wasting alternative to pai gow poker for our mornings :)

Tell me about the Match Play chips. How'd you go about getting them?
I got a players card a couple years ago and they will send promos by mail/email, as a way to entice players to their property. The D match plays are OK but you have to put equal amount of money out of your pocket to play. The GG Free plays are awesome....play the chip at a table until you lose without risking any of your own money....won $50 at GG blackjack.

Ultimate is fun, but it has big swings...can win a lot fast and you can lose a lot fast too....I experienced both!:)
