Flying out tomorrow morning for a week in Las Vegas for my (semi) annual veterinary conference and poker extravaganza. The conference is at Mandalay Bay and I will be staying in the newly remodeled pyramid at Luxor. I will be solo most of the trip so no shows and more poker :) My son will be joining me for a few days from California so I will be showing him around the town. Get ready for lots of food pics and hopefully some big stacks. I will be playing mostly 1/3 NL at Aria & Bellagio, plus tournaments at Venetian but plan to take some stabs at 5/10 NL and PLO too. I am planning to harvest some racks at Sahara and hopefully Mandalay Bay, although I am not sure if their poker room has reopened. I am fully vaccinated, masked, and ready for action :ninja:

Last I checked, Mandalay Bay had permanently closed their poker room. Luxor's has been closed for a while, and New York New Yorks had also been closed (but hardly worth going to even when opened.

It leaves Mandalay Bay a drive to the nearest room, but at least you are in Vegas - and with a tax-write-off to boot! Free-rollin the first buy-in!

Interested to hear what the renovated Pyramid rooms are like — do let us know! Think they have some of the old Bellagio furniture in their rooms?

Have a great trip — and run well!

I just got back from a very similar trip - staying at Luxor for a work conference/trade show in Mandalay Bay.

Mandalay Bay just reopened their poker room a week or so before I got there. IIRC they run 3pm-11pm Thursday-Monday and are closed the other days. When they do run, they only get about 2-3 tables of 1/3NL going. They haven't fully restaffed yet.

I played there once. One table was deep and somewhat grindy. The table I sat at was great, but one LAG was crushing it, seeing about 80% of flops and seemingly hitting all of them. I played for two hours (9pm to 11pm) and by the time they ran us out, he had run it up from about 500 to 1200.

I also played at Venetian a couple times (also 1/3NL). First session was amazing, I couldn't have asked for a better table. Second session (Monday night), my first table was grindy and horrible, and I table changed after 30 minutes. The second table was much better, but the poker gods weren't with me and I was playing like crap after an exhausting week of work. It didn't go well. :confused

I even tried a short session at Bally's, and that was surprisingly grindy too (Tuesday evening).

I’m really happy to hear that the Mandalay Bay poker room reopened - it was not showing up on Bravo.

It is great during the vet conference to get some poker time between sessions.

Did you stay in the pyramid or tower ??

I stayed in the pyramid, 7th floor. I was happy with the room, though my view of the Strip was mostly blocked by a giant butt:

Luxor was pretty quiet during the week, but got much busier over the weekend (par for the course in LV). The Friday I was there was insanely crowded because of a Guns-n-Roses concert at Mandalay Bay that night.

The pyramid rooms are supposed to be recently remodeled with hand me down furniture from the Bellagio. I have heard to ask for a NW facing room on a high floor.

The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the shower was hot. Those are the main things I care about. Internet was decent too, I did have to do some work from the room.

Also FYI, I had dinner at the Luxor steakhouse (Tender). It was quite good but pricey. Luckily my company paid for it.

Most interesting thing about the Luxor is the diagonal moving elevators. It's a weird feeling to move sideways in an elevator.

Yeah, after being on my feet all day for the show, I sometimes had to put my hand on the wall to steady myself when the elevator started moving.

One more thing @k9dr. They just refreshed the key system at Luxor, and they were having some problems.

I was never able to get the digital key (via MGM app) to work, but I was able to use the app for check-in and to get a physical key made at the self-service kiosk. That saved me a bunch of time compared to waiting in line for check-in, FYI.
