Planning a trip to Vegas with a buddy when I turn 21 and looking for advice on building a set of various harvested chips.
As of right now I have my heart set on paris $1s but was wondering if there were any other $1 chips that could serve as good relabels for higher denoms. for example the green Caesars $2 would be a much cheaper alternative to harvesting actual $25s. in addition to this if anyone has experience with pricing for labels as well as possible resale of harvested chips let me know! Ive seen paris $1s sell for 250 a rack on here so it might be worth while to harvest a bit extra during my trip to bring down the cost of the set.

- also if youve heard of any fracs still in vegas that would be awesome!

Some people say harvesting is really hard, some people say just a smile gets them racks of chips. Everyone's milage seems to vary.

Paris $1s are very popular and notoriously hard to harvest.

Caesars $2s and Venetian $2s are popular relabels as $25s.

You can get White $1s and Blue $1s and relabel one of them as something else to make the harvesting a bit cheaper.

The gold standard for over labels and relabels is @Gear who is a vendor here.

You can get a number of chips right now if you want, there are Bellagio $1s and Venetian $2s for sale right now in the classifieds and vendor sections.

Welcome to the forum.

Those venetian $2s looks real nice holy! definitely adding that to the list. the only trouble will be to find a good chip for the $5 other than to spend an arm and a leg for them.

California colored $5's for $2 + gear label for each .... deals galore in Vegas :)

... or use then for $20's

Ask for $1's at the table and use them to tip. As you play shove a bunch in your pockets. Keep asking for more, keep tipping, and keep harvesting. As long as I am using some of them to tip then the dealers have no problem giving me more ;)

The best table game to get them is craps because you need to use $1's for almost every bet on the table.

Your best bet is going to be $1 chips. As @JustDave said, however, your luck may vary. If you can get your hands on them, can't go wrong with any of the following:

Circus Circus $1s
New York New York $1s
Flamingo $1s
OYO $1s
Strat $1s
Binion's $1s

My harvester just asked at the various cages, but apparently a British accent goes a long way.

ill have to exaggerate my Canadian accent and see how that fares with the cage lol

You will also need to decide if you want all of your chips to have the same mold as in THC vs. RHC. The bolder station chips are RHC vs. Most of the others that were mentioned being THC (including Paris $1.)

Browsing the chip guide using the query function might help you pick out chips from casinos you may want to target.

I've been wondering what THC and RHC meant for a while lol that makes a lot of sense now. I much prefer the THC mold

Caesars 2s have a house mold, so they won't match the Paris 1s. Another option might be the Venetian 2s? I actually have a rack of those I'm going to sell, might be easier than harvesting 2s which aren't as common.

Alternatively, you could consider a mixed house mold set. Here's a good example from @wonderpuddle (his picture not mine)

Make sure you have a vendor tag
He doesn’t need to spend $100+ on a vendor tag to sell a few racks of harvested chips from a one-time trip.

Edit: Apparently you do. It's stupid given that dozens of people have done it without so much as a warning and there is no rule that states this, but you should do it just to be safe.

In terms of 5s for your set, I think all the red chips in Vegas are $5 cash value, as per Nevada state law. So it'll depend on how big a set/what stakes you're looking for. If it's a set that uses 5s as the workhorse chip, you could go with "Cali colors" and have a yellow 5. If it's a microstakes set or something else with only a few 5s to allow you to harvest $5 casino chips, there's lots of great options. Check out ChipGuide http://chipguide.com/. You could get lots of mommemorative chips like they do at the Tropicana (although those are RHC I think) or at the Hard Rock (although I think that's closed now), or if you want to spice things up you could get some Strat 5s. They're THCs, but have the premium deco layer, and from what I hear they're mostly in decent shape.

True, but the poker room is by far the easiest to get chips from. They are constantly selling racks of different denominations to people and don't give it a second thought...

What are these? I don't recognize them from just the side...

These bad boys — wish I'd kept them! Couldn't sell them on here for love nor money when I listed them a few years back, so had to eBay them.

Yes he does. People were banned for that exact reason. Just an FYI
Can you point us to the area where it talks about what constitutes needing to become a vendor? I just looked and all I found were comments about needing to be a vendor if you are selling commercially. I am honestly asking as I really don't know and I don't want to ruffle feathers...

They’re red because of tradition, it’s not written into law. They only really regulate dimensions and a few required markings on the chips in the laws.

I have no clue. Would be nice if it was posted somewhere, so people didn't get in trouble. But it's not my website.

Don't most states gaming control boards specify color requirements for each denomination?

A lot of it also depends on if you want it to be like very obviously from vegas or if you want them all to be THC.

Like you could go small stakes and get 1s from just about anywhere, 5s from somewhere that has a cool house mold + colors like ballys, and then get 2s from caesars and turn them into 25s. Then all you need to do is source a frac from somewhere. Like a 1 from MGM/Aria/Bellagio would all be blue and then you could get a rack of whites from 4queens or mirage(if they ever open back up the poker room) and relabel them as fracs.

Damn... I might have to do all of that myself.

Most states - not sure, and I don’t care to do a survey of them. I don’t think that tribes generally care.
Some states - yes, some states have defined colors.
Nevada - nope, they don’t have requirements for colors. see regulation 12.
