I am taking my wife on a no kids Vegas getaway for 3 full days. Leave on the 4th day in afternoon.

Any suggestions for food, spa, and shows?

Budget below for two people each meal/outing:
Dinner $120
Lunch $60
Breakfast $60
Spa $400
Show will entertain all pricepoints

Thanks!

I'd recommend at least one meal at Hash House A Go Go. You can't go wrong with their menu and the food is huge. I haven't been to many shows, but the wife and I had a great time at Blue Man Group last year.

If its still playing at Planet Hollywood, go see Evil Dead: The Musical. Worth every penny even if you are not a fan of the movies or tv show

Some of my favorites.

Dinner:

Fleur @ Mandalay Bay
Excellent tapas style food. My wifes favorite.

Nove Italiano @ Palms
Some of the best modern italian I have had

Lunch:

Gordan Ramsay Burgr @planet hollywood
Great burgers

Burger Bar @ Mandalay Bay
Great burgers and best Nutella milkshakes ever

Breakfast
I second hash house a go go. You can make it brunch and save more money for dinner, the portions are out of control.

Buffets, my favorites in order.
Baccanal Buffet @ Ceasers
Bellation buffet
Wynn

Fun food related thing to do is go to RM Seafood @ Mandalay and play the ice cream challenge. You get 16 tasting cups of homemade ice cream and you need to identify all of the flavors. If you get them all its free. The difficult part is the flavors range from vanilla bean, to garlic, to siracha, to cantaloupe. Its a lot of fun and when I lived in vegas the wife and I would go a couple times of year.

Thx for the advice. Not sure my wife will be into it. Maybe I can find a review for it to convince her. I am a fan of the B movie :).

Thx for the suggestions! Do any of these require reservations? Not sure how busy vegas is right now on the weekends.

I like the brunch suggestion as I am sure we will be up until late and sleeping in. More fun money is a nice plus too.

I will have to try out the ice cream suggestion and will likely have a prop bet with my wife on who does better :)

Canyon Ranch spa at Venetian was excellent when I went, but been several years since going there. http://www.canyonranch.com/lasvegas/the-spa/spa-environments

There are a lot of threads about food, I personally have not found THE PLACE I have to go each time, but all above are good.

I have not seen any of the cirque shows, just not my thing. If Avenue Q were still playing, I'd say see that. Think the one I'd want to see is Penn & Teller before they give up the grind.

Agree with the "brunch" option, pick up a snack in between to add to the dinner budget.

On the weekends I suggest reservations at any of the restaurants, even if it is last minute.

Neither was mine....she hates horror (Evil Dead 2 wasn't really that much of horror). She laughed the whole time at the show (even though she had no idea the references to the movie).

Funny. My wife also is not a fan of horror shows but does like musicals. Horror musicals is a new one for me :)

If you like Thai food, the best Thai restaurant in the US (many say the best Thai food outside of Thailand) is in Vegas. It's called Lotus of Siam. I highly recommend it. Plus, it's cheap. This place is a can't miss if you like Thai food. It's remarkably good.

Also, there's a good old school Italian restaurant called Battista's Hole in the Wall that's been around for a long, long time.

Does this place do Authentic Northeast Thai? Isaan food. I'm talking about real Laab Moo and Som Tum, like you get at street stalls anywhere in Thailand. I haven't ever found a place outside Thailand that does it right.

Yes, that's their specialty. Northern Isaan Thai food. The owner is from the Isaan region and started cooking in her grandmothers hut at the age of 3. If you like Laab Moo and Som Tum, you NEED to go here!

I probably was there about once a month while living in Vegas. Most of the time I told the waiter to surprise me with my meal, it was all just really good. It is pretty far off strip though, which is why I didn't suggest it. Off strip places tend to be cheaper, and in many cases have some really awesome food.

Rock on. I knew there was a @RainmanTrail post somewhere but forgot the name of the thai place. Thx @slisk250 for the reminder!

We love authentic thai food :).

Lotus of siam is 4.4 miles from planet hollywood. 20 dollar uber xl ride.

Anything near there?

Yes, there is another Thai restaurant that is trying to make it off of their overflow because of how popular that place has become :D

Pay the Uber!

If you're at the PH, do yourself a favor and go to Earl of Sandwich! It's on the casino floor by one of the miracle mile shop entrances. The one by the sports book.

Amazing hot sandwiches. You won't be disappointed (and they're cheap). My brother literally eats 3 meals a day there when he's in Vegas.

The noodle bar at the bellagio (across the street from ph) is pretty good too

Last time I went to Vegas (ok, so I've only been once), I earned enough comps for that yummy free buffet at Ceasars!!! Starving, me and my buddy walked over there, then realized it was a 40 minute wait just to get in the door... I commented that lettuce wraps at PF Changs would be really awesome right about then... We promptly walked back over to PH and ate at Changs (zero wait, food was fast and cheap).

Thx for the suggestion. Should work in a pinch.

Any suggestions for food,

Gordon Ramsey's Burgr ...... while its true that you get burgers and fries there for a hefty price, its amazing that they taste better than most other high end steak dinners. Between the casual atmosphere (sports on tv), the hot waitresses and hostesses, and the delicious food, its worth a stop.

We also stopped at Ramsey's pub at Ceasars Palace for apps and drinks..... my wife and I chatted with the bartenders while sampling some great beers that are not local to New England. Apps were good, wasn't expensive, and was a nice relaxing hour break from the excitement of Vegas

BBQ at Ellis Island. Get a players card and you can print a coupon at the kiosk for a buck or two off. It is a brew pub too and their beer is great. You want the BBQ at the back by the sportsbook not the main restaurant. It is a block off the strip behind Ballys and an easy walk.

Not to bash anyone, but only to provide another viewpoint. I found Batista's very ordinary, though I guess cheap for the amount of food you get and if you drink enough of the included house wine, I guess it wouldn't matter. Earl of Sandwich, also very ordinary and nothing special over your typical Subway.

+1 on Hash House. Portions are huge and you may even wish to split a plate and pay the $2 split fee. Also although many items are available all day, check the menus because later in the day, prices rise. Also takes Total Rewards comps.

+1 on Burgr in PH and also Le Burger in the concourse btwn Ballys and Paris. I've eaten at Burgr on the last two trips and it's stunning and the beer selection extensive. Either also takes Total Rewards comps and provides discounts with the player's card.

Best show in Vegas is Absinthe. Small theatre, very intimate, same stunning acts as a Cirque on a smaller stage. Open seating, so arrive early and sit next to the stage. R-rated humour. It's been running a few years so prices are falling and deals can be had for this show if you look around.

+1 for Absinthe, I'm also a big fan of the Blue Man Group it's one of the few shows I've paid my own money to see twice.
Unless they're free, magic acts just aren't worth the money

You can find most of the Vegas shows on YouTube

+1 to Absinthe being the best show, but some people may not like it because it can be very crude. As they dim the lights, they give the standard warnings about no flash photography for the safety of the performers, then say "If words like fuck or shit offend you, you're in the wrong fucking show." They also ripped relentlessly on every ethnic group, political viewpoint, and gays. They did it without actually being insulting, sort of in an old school Don Rickles sort of way. Seating is very cramped, but I never once noticed after the show started, because it was so enthralling - still, a point of note if you are a person of size. Many will tell you every seat at Absinthe is great, but I like front rows.

The "schoolgirls" had a very erotic girl-girl act. Smoking-crazy hot. I have braincells dedicated to retaining this memory, even if alzheimer's sets in.

I'm also a fan of Battistias. The food tastes like someone's grandmother made it. It's not professional good, it's just good. Unlimited free wine makes it great.

Ellis Island is ok - the price point makes it a regular stop for team Zombie. I have not tried the BBQ place, but the $7.99 not-on-the-menu steak dinner has brought us back over and over again. You can read all about it (and many other places) in my trip reports from 2015 and 2015/16. Be warned, I cover a lot.

When going to the Spa, @Mrs Poker Zombie strongly prefers Qua at Caesars. She's tried a few others but Qua wins every time.

Other shows worth an honorable mention:
  • Penn & Teller
  • Zumanity
Both are worth full price and seeing again. I've also seen Mystere and Love. Both are good, but I would recommend seeing them at a discount.

I also agree Hash House is good for a breakfast, but they over-season their potatoes. They did not charge us a split plate fee at the Rio location, I'm not sure if they are making that a universal policy or just at the Rio. Otherwise, order a biscuit or a bowl of froot-loops, as they tend to cost less than the split plate charge.

Earl of Sandwich is ok, but the true win is that they are cheap and on strip. Otherwise, the best subs are off strip (Capriotti's). There are a number of good pizza joints in Vegas for lunch (Secret Pizza, Project Pie), and usually no wait. They make their rent off the late night drunk crowds.

We usually only eat 2 meals a day in Vegas. Late breakfast or early lunch typically brings enough food to carry us both through to dinner. Free flowing alcohol (or soda if you're a teetotaler) gives the sugar-bump that fends off hunger until you actually need it.

The only high dollar restaurant we've hit on multiple trips has been RM Seafood (Mandalay Bay). It would be in your budget if you skipped one other meal, and you don't suck down 2 bottles of the expensive vino like I do.
