Sitting Out
I’m headed to Vegas in a couple of weeks for work. I’ll have one night and one night only to play poker.
I’ve read most of the other threads on here so I don’t want to be redundant. But, the advice varies enough that I’m still not sure what to do. So here are some specific details and questions that might help narrow down the opinions to be most relevant to me.
1) I can only play one night. It can be Monday or Tuesday but I’m leaning towards Tuesday April 26th since I won’t have to work the next day, just catch a flight out. Does it matter?
2) I’m torn on whether to play a tourney or cash game. I have more experience with live tournaments, but play mostly cash games online. With a tourney I risk less money, but the buy-in is gone unless I place, whereas I can leave a cash table whenever I need to to manage losses.
3) I’d really like to limit myself to around $200. Most of the low stakes tables seem to be 1/3 instead of 1/2 like I’m used to. Does 1/3 play a lot bigger? Will I be terribly disadvantaged if I only buy in for $200?
4) There are a lot of opinions on who has the best room or best action, but the one I keep hearing the most is Aria. If I only get one night out this is where I’m leaning just to have the experience. But open to other suggestions based on the following information: I primarily play home tournaments and have only played at a casino cash table once. I’m just here as a recreational player, so a clean, fun atmosphere is more important than the action. However, a super tight table is not going to be any fun and at my skill level an overly aggressive game is probably not going to be much fun either. My main priorities are to have a great experience for my first time in Vegas, and not to leave feeling like a punching bag.
5) Smoke-free is a must. I’m asthmatic.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!
