4 of a Kind
tl;dr summary:
Saturday: Arrived early afternoon, checked in, played some $2/$4 at Flamingo, lost $22 in 4 hours w/ very few memorable hands. Met up with my buddies for some grub at Grand Luxe, then played $4/$8 O8 at Venetian until I couldn't keep my eyes open - I hope it's not a sign of getting old when a half day of air travel wears a guy out.
Sunday: Decided to try the chicken and waffles at Hash House and they did not disappoint. Fabulous. The chicken was crispy and juicy. The waffles were pretty average but who doesn't like strips of bacon in their waffle (bacon makes everything better...or so I'm told). Killed some time and played some table games at MGM before heading over for the 1pm tourney at Aria. 153 entries...yikes. We're down to 3 tables and I get KK in the SB. Folds to me and I raise, BB shoves, I call and he shows JJ. Weeee. Jack on the river. He's got me covered by exactly 75 chips. nh, gg, fu. Out in 28th, top 15 got paid. I grab a slice pizza on the way out and the rest of the night was just video poker, booze, and walking the strip for some "sightseeing"
Monday: Stopped for breakfast at some strip mall in Summerlin on the way to golf. I had a sweet potato skillet with bacon, onion, apples, and gouda. It didn't look like there was a bad plate on the table. Definitely some good eats. Played 18 at at TPC Vegas. It was windy as hell but we still had a great time. Quite the scenic course. I got absolutely smoked in our regular 6 point scotch game. Back to the hotel for a shower and a quick cat nap. Then onto Ellis Island. Steak and beer were both very "meh" but for $15 whatevah. Made a quick $165 while waiting for our table.
Tuesday: After a slow start to the morning we went back to Hash House for breakfast and I decided to enter the 10am tourney ($60) at Flamingo. There were a whopping 8 entries...lol. With 4 left I get two black KK on the button and raise. SB jams, BB, jams, and I'm like omg wtf and call. I see 64o and 9Jo. Okay..... Flop is 6s4sX....fml....running spades for the flush...lololol....#easybutton. Heads up lasts about 10 hands and I take home the cheddar. I know it's a small tourney (with crazy blinds and 15 min levels) but I'm proud that I took it down with a 85/15 combo of luck/skill. Then I enter the 1pm at Aria again. 93 entries this time, 9 get paid. Down to two tables, my third hand at a new table, we're 9 handed and I get AA on the button. A couple folds and limps and I raise to 10k. folds around to a local who jams (fist pump...) and I call. She shows A6 of spades and 3 spades come on the flop. There was an audible gasp from everyone at the table. le sigh.
Wednesday: No moar gambool. Home to my beautiful wife and back to the daily grind.
Lost a good chunk of money but shared some fantastic laughs and made plenty of memories with my buddies. Already looking forward to next year.
Here are the only worthwhile pics I could find on my phone.
