Vancouver BC - Canada roll call! (2 Viewers)

Oh yeah., almost forgot the Ocean Beach (OB) in White Rock. Bar is still there, but no more peelers (I guess ever since the ping-pong ball police raid, the local Council wasn't so keen on that type of family activity on the promenade).

Well if this thread is going to devolve into a discussion of defunct peeler bars (NBI, CH so far), how about the Wild Duck Inn (near the Pitt Meadows Bridge,) the Fraser Arms (Marine Drive near Granville) , the Blue Boy (Marine at Fraser), the Biltmore (Kingsway at 12th), the Ivanhoe/Cobalt/American (Main near Georgia Viaduct), and probably a few others. And yes, I am old enough to remember them all with varying degrees of fondness

Oh wow lots of old, and new memories!

- To really date myself, remember the Marble Arch?
- IIRC my friend dated a waitress from the Fraser Arms.
- I'm stumbling distance from the Ivanhoe, Cobalt and American.
- A few years back the Cobalt was a popular spot with the kids, but closed before Covid. The venue had live music and drag queen shows.
- The American has been gentrified and is with the kids.
- The Ivanhoe was still the same but has been closed since covid.

These days my go to bar is The Boxcar. It's in the same building as the Cobalt. Tasty cocktails and a good selection of beer!

What! You mean the Cecil is closed???? What's next, No. 5 Orange???

Not sure whether Marble Arch is still in business. The Penthouse reportedly closed for Covid, but I don't know if it is planning to re-open or if it is gone for good.

The arch closed years ago. I had my 2nd under aged beer there.

The 5 will never close.

Years ago I had a "flat brim" poker night. That was my choice, but I gave it away to a former CT member, who "got a lot of play with it" BTW, cause my better half wouldn't want me wearing it. A couple years and divorce later, I got another :)

Penthouse was open before covid. When phizer made the news about the vaccine their billboard said: "Now phizer makes my two favorite things." :)

Spent alot of time in the Paramount as well, since you touched on Mugs and Jugs. I remember the $5 pints, free cover charge, and other cheap thrills:):)

I realize the Paramount is alcohol-free, but we would get liquored up at my buddy's apartment on Carnarvon and stumble our way across the street, pretend to be sober for a few seconds, and boom, stripper/pornstar heaven!!!

lol good times indeed.

If you traveled a bit further out from the city there was Delanies in Surrey or Caddy Shack in Maple Ridge. I didn't spend much time at these establishments locally as we were more likely to hit the clubs. Definitely don't hold a candle to Missisauga and Toronto establishments (made for fun business trips in the late 90's/early 00's).

Surrey also had the Flaming O (Flamingo). Never had the courage to go inside, or even to park my car close to it.

If you mean the Blarney Stone, it never had peelers when I visited - only yuppies. Tried to go to M&J once, but they wanted $10 to get inside so that I could spend $10 for a watered down beer. Being a cheap ass, I went to the NBI instead, which didn't have a cover charge at the time.

I had always wondered about that place.

That maybe. But if you want to talk about fun, peelers etc etc, nothing beats St.Laurent Boulevard during the heart of an F1 event, in Montreal. That city DOES NOT SLEEP! Most memorable peeler experience of my life(in Canada) to date. I've been to Toronto, perhaps not extensively, but Montreal blew me away...

I took a break from the site and missed this. I would love to host, but I sold my house and am in limbo right now. @T_Chan is waiting on my slow ass to finalize my table, but I need a place to live first.

I'm happy to host when I'm set up.
I'm not able to host again bro. I'd be happy to attend anywhere, but my household won't accept 16 man tourneys. Thems the new rules.

Sad for me, I bought my Chanman, used it twice, and it's retired to service as a dinner table... Very expensive dinner table.:(

Congratulations on the sale of your home man! Would love to meet someday and share felt somewhere!

On one hand, it's exciting because I sold my house for fuck you money and could move anywhere the world. On the other hand, I don't WANT to move anywhere else in the world and the homes I want here are Fuck everyone money. ;)

Wife still against hosting hey? Even with the vaccines? I still play bi weekly

What was the name of the place that me and my buddies used to go to that was right across the border from Blaine? When we were all hanging out at Western up in Bellingham it was a very popular drive to go up, cross the border, and hit the bar and strip club.

I know the late 90s is exactly when we used to come up there, I turnrd 19 in December of 98 and the Vancouver area was incredible to all of us who couldn't drink in America. There was this awesome bar you could buy weed from a dude that hung out buy the jukebox in gas town, just down the street from the Amsterdam cafe. Richards on Richards was always a favorite to send buddies to that had never been up there.

Love Vancouver. Incredible city. Y'all are fortunate.

If it was “right across the border “, it was probably the Ocean Beach (popularly known as the OB) in White Rock. Less than 5 minutes drive from Blaine.

As in RIGHT across the border, closer to the guard shacks than the duty free liquor store if I remember right.

If we got dropped off and walked across it was a 45 second walk once in country, if we were driving I think it was ten seconds after you came out of the guard shack. The first left available that wasn't turning into an inspection station heading north.

Usual clientele in the strip club was 19-20 year old wwu males and their friends with one or two scary looking locals. The bar next door the same but add in a some females from wwu and a few more locals.

Now I'm trying to remember if it was the truck crossing in Blaine or thw peace arch crossing.... It may have been the peace arch now that I'm thinking about those hazy times.

Lol maybe @RainmanTrail remembers?

Must have been at the Truck Crossing on 176th (not Peace Arch). There is an old one-story building within 50 ft of the border that is closer than the duty free. I never made it to that particular bar. I thought that I had been inside every seedy establishment that there was back in the day, but I must have missed that one somehow.

Sorry to hear that, your game was by far one of the best and most fun that I have attended!

But I understand and sympathize. My wife told me more or less the same thing - evenings with a house full of strangers (to her) on a regular basis isn't her idea of fun. She may let me get away with the very occasional weekend afternoon game, but even that is questionable. I'm keeping my eyes open for some type of location that I can host that doesn't involve people disturbing her peace and quiet. (Happy wife, happy life).

If I was closer I could be your huckleberry, I love hosting and wife has no issue with it.
