So after great deliberation, I have come up with a second design for my USMC cash set on the FDL mold.

So I ask of you fine people, which set do you prefer? What would you change? What do you hate about it?

All feedback is welcome, no matter how harsh!

Love the inlays for the denomination on set #1. Good stuff.

I would use those on both sides. Not a fan of different inlays on each side but I understand why people like using them.

You’re closer with Set 1, though I think you can refine the inlay some. The $1 and $100 don’t move the needle for me, and the $500 could be energized a bit - go gold/red with the rank like for the opposite side inlay?

Fun set and the chip colors and combos are great. Good work so far!

$500 needs a new color scheme for sure. I like the $100 seems consistent with a military vibe. The $5 and $25 nail it. I like the $1 as well. Count me in for several sample sets for my Marine friends!

Deffinatly prefer set 1, the larger size of the edge spots are a great aspect to the set's overall color scheme. I only question do you really need the $500 and $1000 chips? The colors just seem off and if they aren't going to be used often, if every they could probably be skipped all together.
As for the inlays the front side of the 2nd set looks very sharp and I would use it for both sides, the red, white, and blue USMC looks very muddled and in the small size of a poker chip will likely either look too busy or the extra work going into the coloring will just be lost. If you want different inlays on front and back I would go with the fronts of set 2 and the backs of set 1.

Overall a very good looking set, once delivered please post a pic of how they look on a table in play.

Ok, so it seems that the consensus is the inlays should be merged with the back of 1 and the front of 2. Also, stay with the simple spot patterns from set 1.

As to the $500 and $1k chips, they won't be used a lot, but they will get some table time. Out of the 2,000 chips, I'm only getting 60 and 40 of those (I think). The $1k is supposed to be an homage to the desert camos and with the color sample sets I got from CPC, I think those are the best colors for the job. As for the pink $500, I know it is out of place, but I really like the look of the pink chips in the TCH streams, and I felt it was the best color option so as not to get too close to any other denomination.

All that said, what do we think about this?

Personally Mandarin Red > Retro Red for the $5 chip. What about throwing the retro red on the $1 chip?

I dig the $1K chip with the sand camo like you mentioned.

What about Purple Heart? Any way to utilize that for the $500 chip? I don't love the idea...just spitballing. If you like bright pink, go for it. It does look good.

I think whatever you finalize with you have a real nice set up here! Super jealous!

I did consider purple chip with Purple Heart, but I am not a recipient so I felt it was a little disingenuous.

I've been back and forth between those two reds... Here it is in Mandarin Red:

Wow, that does look very orange. I have a color sample set and my mandarin red doesn't look like that.

I'll have to ponder on the red a bit more.

Thank you!

So I'm ready to place my order and just wanted a sanity check on breakdown. Here's what I'm thinking so that I can run up to 2 tables of $1/1, 1/2, 2/5, and 5/T. I have an extra 20 of each chip for souvenir sample sets.

What do the masses think?

DenominationCountAmount
1420$420
5620$3,100
25320$8,000
100120$12,000
50080$40,000
1,00060$60,000
5,0000$0
1,620$123,520

I like it a lot. Any concern over dirty stacks between the green and the black chip? Dark base colors and dark'ish spots?

Only mildly. I have the sample sets and compared them with various casino chips of similar colors (admittedly not similar spot colors) and just think this is the best option for this set theme. If that happens, it's only 100 or 300 chips that would need to be redesigned so I think I'm ok with it until I find out I'm stupid.

Excellent. I have learned the hard way on this myself.

What is your history with USMC? Active? Reserves? Time? What locations were you at? ect....Anything that you are comfortable sharing.

Active from 09/99 through 09/04. Boot camp in Parris Island, combat training in NC, a year of school in the lovely 29 Palms, then 4 years at MCAS Miramar in San Diego with one of those 4 spent in Kuwait/Iraq in 2003. My technical job was computer and telephone/fiber optic repair, but I never really did any of that. I spent a lot of time as a marksmanship instructor and Marine Corps martial arts instructor.
