If I could pick your brain:

I have a cheaper poker chip set with cash denominations. .25, .50, 1, 5, 25, 50, 100.

The chips are unique, in the sense that I’ve never seen any one else with them.. but they are not expensive. I suspect probably around the .50/chip mark.

Would you make your first large expenditure ~$2,000 on a cash set?

Or… do you plow through the mediocracy of the cash chips, and get yourself a tournament set, even though it may be used at the rate of 1/5 tournament/cash.

Now, if you were to customize your chips. With your own logo…. And spend all that money to have it done..

Do you still go cash? Or tourney?

What if your colors are all solids?

Or do a large custom Cards Mold hybrid set. Have your custom cash set and then build on top of it with the higher denominations as a tourney set. This way when your tourney ends and you want to starts a cash game, you can use the same set, but there is no bleed over from tourney to cash because your tourney denominations are not used in the cash game (unless you run a game for Bill Gates type people...)

Of course, this is just to get you started and hold you over. But then.... You buy buy buy and get some nice expensive chips!!

Do what you want. They are your chips!

If it's me, and I'm only doing one custom set, I'm choosing cash every time. Because cash is my primary game, and security.

I think it's fairly obvious that you should spend the greatest amount of your budget on the chips you will use the most. So if that's 5/1 in favor of cash, then upgrade the cash set. If you were totally happy with the cash set you have, then you wouldn't be asking these questions.

If you have a $2K budget, you can easily buy two nice sets, still putting more into the cash set than the tournament set. I have a lot of sets that I've collected in my three years on PCF. Only recently did I buy a leaded THC cash set that approached $2K. I have another cash set that I love that was about $1K and a great Paulson Tournament set that was under $800, plus numerous sets that only cost $200-600. I love and still use the the very first china clay set I bought that was barely over $200, plus about another $100 on DIY custom labels. Having a cool set of chips you love is not about how much money you spend.

Buy 1 or 2 sets of these:

...and this:

...and then you have a sweet cash set of real clay THC Paulsons (use 2.50 for .25), you have a nice, solid tourney set of plastic Gemaco chips from a real casino for uber cheap, and then have $600-$800 left for a hot dog roller. Mic drop!

What do you play more of, how often, and how established is the game?

I say put the cash where it would be better used. Sounds like you have a cash game and are looking to start a tournament?

I have both, but like you play lots more cash so for me it seems like a no Brainer. Upgrade the cash & Sell your current cash set and replace it with something of equal or lesser value. Like others have said & at that price point, a Cards mold Tournament set seems like the obvious choice

This exactly.

I did a custom CPC forever proof cash set, cards mold group buy tournament set :)
You have pictures of this on PCF?
Edit: never mind, above post just popped in :). I think I remember seeing these now. Awesome job!
