I'm going to Vegas in the next few weeks. Got the trip as a Christmas present and couldn't be more excited! I have done hours upon hours of research on what to check out, eat, etc. But I figure some of you are experts more than travel sites and vlogs so if you have any suggestions please let me know. Planning on hitting up most of the strip casinos and probably all of the Downtown ones. This way I can knock out probably 25 chips for my single chip collection. Might try to get a rack some where but I'll have to see what I like. Of course I am going to make a stop and check out @Spinettis Gaming in person. Other than that please help me out and hit me up with some advice!

Many of the casinos are closed M-T, when are you going?
About a week. I know the ones like Mirage and a few others that I am trying to make sure I avoid on those days. Thanks for the heads up!

For a cheaper dinner, try Battistas Hole in the Wall. Italian food, free wine, very "old time" Vegas. I dig the lasagne. Right across Ballys on E Flamingo. The entertainers in Vegas used to go there after shows. Tons of memorabilia.

I also never miss going to the Pinball Hall of Fame. But that's just me. :)

I went up and down the strip for collectible $1 chips. Took about 1/2 a day and that was in 115 degree heat. I stopped at each Sportsbook to rest and get water.

Be prepared to walk ALOT.

Take the time to scope out off strip bars and restaurants. Way better value and quality.

Drinks are free when gaming. Otherwise drinks are priced insane like $20 for a beer at some places.

Health insurance - check
Covid Vaccination - check
Hand sanitizer - check
Non-surgical mask - check
Lots of cash - check
More cash or access to a low fee ATM - check (don't carry all your cash with you at the same time)
Camera - check
Good walking shoes (great point @Lemonzest ) - check
Bottled water - check (CVS has several locations on the strip, cheapest place to buy bottled water)
Sunscreen - check (even in the winter, you can get a burn, unless you stay in the casinos the whole time)

Depending on where you are staying, the Monorail is a good way to get from the South end (MGM) to the North
(Sahara). A weekly pass is a great deal if you will be using it every day, otherwise not so much.

If you want to see shows or attractions, the hotel Concierge is your friend (often same price or even cheaper than the discount kiosks). Also look in your hotel room for coupon books for discounts.

I'm not sure if live shows are on again, but Cirque de Soleil "O" is IMO the best show to see if you are only going to see one. Book early, as seating is scarce even in non-Covid times. Spend a bit extra to get the best seat(s) you can afford.

For singles harvesting, asking at the cashier to buy 1-5 chips will often be met with the question "are you buying them for souvenirs?" . If you say YES!, they will often go in the back and get some minty new ones for you, or at least give you the best of what they have in their till. Sometimes they will send you away, in which case you can buy anywhere from 5-20 chips at a table, and then go to the cashier and redeem the ones you don't want.

Have fun!!!

This is super helpful thank you! Was wondering what the best way to do it was.

Been literally walking 2 miles a day every morning to prepare!

@DeeVee8 barista hole in the wall seems to be a big recommendation
One of our favorites as well, we even had our reception at Batistas after getting married at the Bellagio fountains!!

I also highly recommend to everyone that asks to have breakfast or brunch and Mon Ami Gabi at Paris, and wait to be seated outside

  • red rock national conservation area
  • stay at the aria in their bigger suites
  • never break in new shoes in vegas
  • always wear a suit (no tie) after 9pm. (drives the ladies wild)
  • take your lady to the top of Eiffel tower after dinner at belagio overlooking the fountain at night
  • Superman zipline above that new area by that one hotel i forget
  • play craps at 3am
  • sit down at a blackjack table at 3rd base and ask the dealer how to play poker
  • play paigow at the 1st table at Paris. Shake fist at the sky and say "arrrr" each time the house wins (they will ask you if you know John from chicago)

I don't know which to take seriously and which to avoid but I like them so I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the list.

I'm a big craps player any reason to play at 3am?

Got ya. Hoping it's fun even with all the restrictions and probably only 6 to a table. But I am a don't player so I try to keep a low profile and not cheer when I win.

Dang missed both spins. Hit right in between the second time with 23. Had fun though, hadn't played roulette in the longest time.

I just went back in October and there were no shows, so expect just to stay at the tables...

Pai gow is the best game ever. I still don't know how to play, but I don't think I've ever had losing session :)
Tip the waitresses well and they will keep you well hydrated.

+1 for Pai Gow. Pretty low house edge + an incredibly low hands per hour compared to other table games = excellent table game for crushing drinks.

Recently an even bigger fan of the face-up variant.

Just FYI, the monorail has been closed for a while. IDK if its been re-opened just recently but I wouldnt count on that as an option until covid is a thing of the past. The shows were all closed too and likely still that way.

Its always my "starter" game for the night just for this reason.
