1) For those who use slide under cupholders regularly, have you noticed that over time or with heavy use it created a gap that cards get stuck in while dealing?

2) I know that having the same base color for your felt and chips is to be avoided if possible, does this also apply to the rail? I’m considering going with a black rail to save about $120, but my $1 chip has a black base.

Thanks for your input!

Cards can always get stuck between the rail and the felt, whether the cup holder is there or not.
For sure, I suppose a better way of phrasing my question is whether anyone has noticed an increased frequency of this occurring — after inserting/removing the slide-ins a bunch.

I've never "lost" a chip on a felt or a rail.

I guess I was more thinking about eyeing up another player’s stack across the table, for folks with less than great eyesight.

I’m going to take the relative quiet in responses as evidence that neither of these two things is an issue, which is good...I’m just doing my homework before choosing between two build alternatives that are ~$650 apart in price.

The only issue with chips the same color as the felt is if they are solid and blend in really well. If your chips have edge spots, the issue is negligible as they'd stand out that way. Get what makes you happy even if it costs a little more. A good table should withstand a lifetime of semi-regular home games.

Which tables are you considering?

I have a deposit in with T_Chan. I'm going with an eight person, 6'6" long elongated hexagon, modified mayo style legs (to fit the longer shape), and the dinner table topper.

The table, first and foremost, needed to be a cool dinner table independant of anything poker related in order to appease the executive decider of my household. Unfortunately this made the "cheap" build option (non-raised, black vinyl rail w/o cupholders) is already about $3k USD, prior to buying any chairs or factoring in any shipping costs from Western Canada to DC. This is after just spending about that much on CPC's & assorted birdcages and racks.

The more expensive option that I'm considering for the table includes gray colored vinyl for the rail surface, powdercoated cupholders in-rail, and gold leaf applied to the raised (wood) portion of the rail -- to match the "Golden Nickel Casino" theme that I have for my chips & I'm incorporating into my table. These extras will be *at least* $650 more, and I'm just trying to determine if it's worth the cost.

Going with a gray base for the felt, a color not used at all in my chips, and yes, to justify the cost I'm hoping this will last a few decades or so.
