First question is how many straddles does your game allow? Second question is what's the typical opening raise amount in bb? And to tie it all together what stakes is your game?

There’s a limit?

Live look into @ArielVer18 @RichMahogany @kmccormick100 @BarrieJ3 @RocAFella1 @quintooo when it’s straddled to $32 and next man up hasn’t looked at his cards yet…..

I really like a 1/2 or 1/3 NLH game. While I dont have a set amount for an opening raise on the BB (I scale based on pot size, and my my opponents) Over the years it seems most people will throw a $5 regardless of players or pot. I hate straddlers. Just go buy a lotto ticket if you want to play that way.

My old game back east was .25/.50 and we got up to $128 numerous times and $256 3 or 4 times. Unlimited straddles. The game got big enough that I had to limit it to single straddle at the end, else everyone was facing a $32 call with action behind every hand. 25/50c is ok. 1/2 is fun. 2/4 is great. 4/8 with those stacks is lol. But .25/.50/1/2/4/8/16/32 was just getting idiotic with $300 effective stacks.

It all depends on your Degens (hey, it rhymes)

We see a lot of straddles, double-straddles, even triple-straddles in our home games, and button stradles in the casino games. It's a great way to loosen up the table and, frankly, sniff out the opponents who are inexperienced. It's not for everyone and that's ok, but most players at a home game or low-stakes casino game are not there to grind out 5 BB/hr. Straddles and bomb pots are great ways to spice up the game and to entertain players with deep pockets and keep them coming back.

I have found the smaller the stakes the higher the PF open is in terms of BB. In the local Chicagoland card rooms it is typical to see 5-6X open at 1/2 & 1/3, and at 2/5 3-4X. As you move up in stakes you see more sophisticated limping and 3-bet strategies, and much deeper stacks, all of which make the PF open a little more conservative.

$1-$2

UTG straddle to $10 only

Average raise (no straddle) $5-$15

When a straddle a lot of doubles to $20

.25 /.50
Straddle is only double the previous blind in our game, usually only gets to $2 (sometimes gets to $16, but that is rare.) We allow button straddle to $1, but UTG gets priority.
Average raise is usually around 6x ($3 open in unstraddled pot.)

.25/.50
Typical opens are $2-$3 w/o straddle on.
Straddles allowed double previous posting, up to and including button. Usually only get a single or double straddle going and maybe once or twice per orbit. I think quintuple ($16) is the highest we've had.

Straddles are ok when in moderation. But I like to play cards. Shoving for 10 bigs effective after 4 straddles is not playing cards. A single straddle from utg or button seems like a great compromise to me.

As far as how much open raises are, I always try to figure out where I think I need to be to get the flop to 2 or three players. Online, 3x is plenty. Home games, usually 6x is the sweet spot.

We implement rule only UTG straddle option • 2x up to 5x big blind • issue was guys who like to straddle to get last option then losing it with double triple+ straddles • so straddles happened way less • we also sometimes do straddle Round top of hour to be fair to all players • as some would straddle all night while others never would.

Is the rational for “not the button” because he has the advantage because he is last to raise/call/fold?
It's because the button has the advantage (power) post flop. This would give the button the advantage pre flop too. Thus an even greater advantage.
