Hey there!

Wife and I are spending two days in Vancouver in late July before sailing up to Alaska. Any locals recommend an area of the city to book the hotel- within walking distance of any must see/do attractions?

I'm gonna Goggle and Trip Advisor the city - but if anyone local has any suggestions I am all ears. Also would love to know of any must hit restaurants.

Thanks in advance!

Are there any particular types of things that you and your wife like to see/do?

Shopping? Museums? Outdoorsy?

Also, any types of food? We have a lot of ethnic foods here, especially asian and south asian.

Wife and I are heading on an Alaskan cruise July 16th thru 28th. Two years delayed due to Covid. Cruise for 7 days then spend 5 days inland and end up in Fairbanks. We don’t get to spend much time in Vancouver. Pretty much just the day we fly in.
Enjoy your trip.

Not shopping. We like museums, city walking, parks etc. Not really hiking - but if there is a spot to rent a bike and ride around - awesome.

I'm not looking for a specific hotel - just the area of town to look for one (or an airBnb)

We don't have a wealth of museums, but there is the VAG (Vancouver Art Gallery) You might have already seen it, I'm pretty sure it was used as the Museum in the Night at the Museum movies.

City walking, good places to check out are Granville Island , Gastown , or near the Vancouver Public Library (Central Library Location) , the library has also been used as a lot of movie sets, due to it's kind of futuristic architecture.

If you have a car, taking a drive up the Sea to Sky highway is really great views. Mountains, oceans, and in July, usually pretty great weather. You can visit Whistler, where a lot of the 2010 winter olympics events took place, and on the way up you go through Squamish, which has the Britannia Mine (A personal favourite, since I worked on the restoration of the mine site).

As mentioned, the Capilano Suspension Bridge is a really cool place to check out. Same with Stanley Park , and if you do go to the park, you can visit the Vancouver Aquarium, as it's located there! They also have a miniature train ride, horse drawn carriage rides, and I think you can rent bikes there too (I'm not sure, here in BC we have bike helmet laws)

If you want to gamble a bit, there is River Rock casino near the airport, Parq casino downtown, and Grand Villa casino a bit farther out in Burnaby.

Feel free to hit me up if you have any other questions. I mean, I guess you could always come check out our Chanman Poker Tables warehouse if you really want. :p

My wife and I stayed at the Fairmont Pacific Rim a few months ago for a staycation. Very nice, walking distance to the port, though a bit pricey.

The restaurant downstairs is fan-freaking-tastic. Botanist.

Gastown and Stanley Park are always my main suggestions. The seawall is a long walk if you're going to do the whole thing, several hours. Best to find a spot and stroll around and then head back.

There's also a hop on - hop off bus that roams around downtown. Never used it but looked many times and it looks like it hits a lot of good spots downtown.

Grouse mountain is always nice, take the Gondola up, walk around the trails, visit the bear sanctuary. It's pretty out of the way to get there though unless you're renting a car. I'm pretty sure there's a bus that goes from downtown directly to the gondola. The restaurant up there is also a favorite, Observatory.

HA HA - as much as I would love to do this, if I even mentioned anything Poker related to my wife on our 'Alone Vacation' - it will be a very 'alone' vacation for me the next 7 days  :ROFLMAO: :sneaky:

Lots of good suggestions.

You mentioned biking, and we have a bike share that's good if you want to use it to explore the city:

Edit: If you like beer there's a lot of good micro breweries in my hood, Mount Pleasant.

If it's "time for a cocktail," the Pourhouse in Gastown, and the Keefer in Chinatown are good.

I was going to suggest the same, you could come visit but when I read that you were here for just 2 days with the wife, I figured a quick game invite wouldn't be in the cards.

Also coming to Vancouver next week for cruise. We are staying next to the port, any (short) walking distance suggestions or must sees in downtown or at the port?
