After several months of anticipation, earlier this week I received two custom “team pride” chip sets, a tourney set and a cash set, from CPC on FDL mold. Mostly I’m posting this as a whole-hearted endorsement of David and CPC, since they did a great job and were great to work with. The designs are fairly simple, with some WSOP-chip inspiration in the Jazz-themed tournament set, and a few hints of the Aria/Bellagio chips in the Boston College-themed cash set. A few quick notes.
First of all, this may be self-evident, but these are very personalized sets for my home game. I did not entertain any rational thoughts about using a design that might be less personal and have resale value. I’m not expecting to ever sell or dispose of these chips.
Second, the cash denominations may deserve some explanation. I know many on here are fans of the $20 chip, but most guys in my group play $1/2 in a casino somewhat regularly and are accustomed to casino denominations. We’ve never played with a $20 chip. (There’s also no game-security risk in using a $25 chip because the cash set $25 is totally different from the T25 (green vs retro green, dark inlay vs light, different edge spots). I get the impression that the $20s may be more useful in lower-stakes games where buy-ins and rebuys may use more $20 bills, and that doesn’t happen to be my game. We usually play $1/2 NL or PL games, and mix in occasional $4/8 limit games (hence the $2 chips).
The chips have not been oiled, although a few barrels have been handled at length to get a little "natural" oil going. I'm not sure I will oil them, to be honest, I may just put them in play and let them wear in. Anyway, I couldn’t be happier with the finished product.
