i am wondering which route to go?

I have an Epson artison 1430 printer - should I print myself - or worth having them professionally done? whats the best place to buy the sheets of labels if doing it myself? (500 chips)

also - what do you use to design the artwork? software etc?

I am looking for something basic for a tournament set - something without the dollar signs - I like the classy look of the Majestic's but without the dollar sign.

something like the Stardust mansion chips - black background, easy to read etc.

how can i go about creating labels that look like those?

if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be amazing! send me a PM if you need to --- so lost here!

yes - I have been on his website - very nice.

does everyone use him? or anyone print themselves on here... ?

I printed my own labels years ago, for my first set, and quickly realized that without anything applied to a label to protect it from water, drinks, scratches, scrapes, people rubbing their fingers across them, etc. they were not going to last. There has to be something there, like a thin lamination, to protect the images. Also, if you're going to get pre-cut blank sheets (which is the route I took) you have to hope they all feed through the printer properly and don't end up becoming crooked part way through.

The ones I did (about 2,000 chips) came out good, and lasted OK, but I have long since retired that metal-slugged set. Oh, and I did apply some kind of 3M UV coating spray on them to protect the images. That was quite the project, and had to be done outside due to the strong odor of the coating. I ended up having to hang them from a clothes line to spray and let them dry. I think I got the pre-cut vinyl sheets from rippedsheets(dot)com, and used photoshop to design the (blatantly ripped-off) artwork.

After that I decided this was best left to those who could put an actual laminate on the labels and, of course, pre-cut the circles. All I have to do is peel and stick, and it's worth it. Their materials are probably of better quality anyway (I had an average quality HP printer), and there's nothing better than a lamination to shield your artwork.

As a matter of fact, I have a label order in the queue with Gear right now and am hoping to have them soon! They will go on blank Majestics.

By the time you have purchased printer ink/toner, label stock, laminate material, and design software, you'll be so far in the hole compared to the cost of professional @Gear labels it won't be funny..... and that's when providing your labor costs for free. Plus @Gear does design work, too.

Go pro - go @Gear
