Hello, I'm new here because I wanted to know the answer or if anyone has any idea theories/rumours about this.

I was wondering if there is a possibility of the World Top Hat and Cane poker chips ever coming back to the consumer market from Paulson?
I heard they might have also wanted to not have this led material concern with customers? So maybe a possibility of bringing them back with some other material as weight, like ClassicPokerChips using brass?

Hoping for some interesting info, thanks!

Welcome to the forum!!

The short answer is it’s probably highly unlikely. There has been a good bit of discussion on this topic and some threads with lots of good Info and detail can be found if you dig around the forum a bit. It’s an interesting read with some knowledgeable perspectives, would definitely recommend searching the forums if your interested in the topic.

In summary, the general consensus is the likelihood of GPI/Paulson opening the consumer market again is very low.

IIRC, basically the casino market got pissed, so they stopped..

Although we ALL wish and hope they change their minds one day!

Paulson stopped making commercially available chips to non-casino customers. These are likely not coming back.

You could make chips similar to the spots and colors from CPC, but the will be different as the manufacturing process and materials are a different.

Lead is only a worry in older Paulson chips if you are eating them. The amount of lead in the chips is on the lower side and is very difficult to liberate from the chip short of grinding it into powder.

I see, that's sad. Thank's for the great feedback! Then I'll better buy the CAC Atlantic club before they also disappear

The Atlantic Club chips rom CPC (Classic Poker Chips) are one of their stock designs that are almost always in stock and available. There might be a denomination or two that aren't in stock at any given moment, but they are on a mold )the A-mold) that is always mounted in the presses at CPC and can be re-stocked. It's unlikely they are going to disappear anytime soon.

That's good to know. But it's design seems very inspired by the Paulson WTHC as well, which I think is neat, since I can't get the Paulson's unless I want to spend a fortune..

Thanks, I'll check him out! Tho I prefer chips that don't have the $ or € sign next to the value, like the WTHC and Atlantic club from CPC.

If you are looking at ASM/CPC stock sets, then check out 'Key West' from Vendor @dennis63 too

Key West
These have great old school edges, I went with a similar old school two tone edge theme for my CPC set as well.

The other option many other PCF members have gone with is used/new Casino chips as they become available or resale here. You have a lot of options in the ~$2+/- chip range

Yes but seems most of the chips from the casinos disappear pretty quickly, and most of the chips I don't really like the look of. I still have to do my 10 posts to be able to use the trading on here anyways

Oh come on! What's next, telling me that I can't bathe with and oil them!?

Actually, I would also expect that milling leaded chips could be a potential hazard with the lead being distributed in the air.

One thing that's very rarely talked about is how some of these custom Paulsons do end up still getting made (Coop, boat chips, BTP, etc). I'm sure if you hunt and peck around the forum you can find out how they were produced.

A sample set would be nice actually, and if possible, maybe I can get a sample set of the WTHC as well!

Check out the vender page for Key West’s in the Vender Section of PCF. Dennis is a long time member and great vender.

It’s been a little while, but I think the sample set is ~$25 - $30 + shipping and it’s 12 chips if I recall.

Well worth it!

Yes, I'm ordering some right now, looking forward to them!
Assuming you’re talking about samples, I would also get samples of the same set on the horsehead mold before you pull the trigger on a set. The molds all feel very differently and while I like the looks of the A-mold, I think it feels to rough. The HH mold both looks and feels great imo.

Yes, I meant the sample from @dennis63.
I actually already have a sample set of the Atlantic Club chips from CPC on the Horsehead mold, and I really like them also.

Great! Then you’re good. I love the old school look of the The Key wests and the H-mold is awesome. I just can’t go buy everything I want (sadly)

I agree with most that a return of Paulsons, of any type, to the consumer market is unlikely. I it was alluded to earlier that casino complaints might have been behind this though I'm guessing the relatively small amount of chips they were producing for unusually picky folks like us might have skewed the "worth it" mark to "no". Security wise they chips and patterns that are out there are out there. No casino is every going to use them so those chips are of no use to anyone at the moment.

I do secretly (foolishly) keep hoping that they'd just bring back the standard basic offerings from the late 90s/early 80s. The fantasy sets and patterns we all know and love. Do you hear that GPI? We'd think you were super swell and we'd say all kinds of nice things about you.

I don't think they are listening. Does anyone have Hiroshi Ikeda's phone number?
