Hi PCF. I am interested in buying a semi-custom set of Tiki Kings poker chips from BR Pro Poker. When searching the internet for real life photos, I discovered this forum here. Thanks for all the useful information here, I already learned a lot! However, the photos I found raised a certain question: are there two (or multiple?) versions of these chips on the market?

The Tiki Kings chips shown in their standard chips section show a border with mostly gray inner and outer circles.
In their semi-custom section, these inner and outer rings always have one of the colors of the zig-zag pattern in between.

What I mean is most visible on the 1s. There seems to be an older "model A" shown here:

This matches real life photos I found here:

The background pattern in gray is much lighter than the ring color.

Additionally, there seems to be a "model B"
https://www.brpropoker.com/uploads/4/4/7/3/44731699/s527692060216796063_p44_i37_w400.jpeg
which matches newer real life photos I found, e.g. here:

https://www.pokerchipforum.com/attachments/img_3051-jpg.167458/
The background pattern in these photos shows a much darker gray, the same as the rings. All in all, the "model B versions" share the same Tiki images, but -- at least for me -- the background seems to be redrawn with less detail.

What would I get if I order standard or semi-custom Tiki chip? Is it always the (presumably newer) "model B"? Can someone of the chip experts here please enlighten me? I already found out that BR Pro Poker was bought by same other chip vendor. Perhaps it has something to do with it?

Edit: Links fixed. Is there a good way to included images from this forum directly?

You definitely came to the right place, not only do we have the owner of brpropoker here we also have @Puzzlemonkey who is the designer of these chips :)

My most recent order of Tikis were some standard 100s and a couple of customs. Gene@ABC is great, he will work with you to get exactly what you want - I wanted the guy on the white chip to fill the circle and have rebuy fit on the left and he did exactly that. He'll send you a proof before printing so that you can be sure you're getting what you want.

I'm a bit surprised that you've only found two versions of the Tiki's! ;)

When we acquired BR Pro Poker in 2016, there were multiple versions of these chips in stock. We tried continuing to have the same manufacturer do the Tiki chips for consistency sake, but order after order arrived with different colors. So, we gave up on that, and decided to do all of the manufacturing ourselves so we could control the end product. We tried to match colors to what we thought was correct, but being that there were different versions we obviously couldn't match to them all. I just took these photos...these are the colors that they have been the last few years. I'm going to upload these same photos to the website to eliminate any confusion with the older photos.

@ABC Gifts and Awards : Thanks for clearing this up. Now I could order with confidence ... except that I want white 1s, but I after seeing the old 1s, this image cannot be unseen again. Sorry, but I like the old 1s soooo much more than the newer ones. I really love 6 out of the 7 designs! Everything but the 1s...

IMHO, the gray zigzag pattern on the white background is much too nervous. Too much contrast in the background. On the other designs, the border pattern and the Tiki figure in the foreground stand out. Background is just background, as it should be (forget the bright yellow circles on the 1000 for a moment :) ). For the white 1s, the background pattern dominates everything. Would it be possible to make the gray lines on the background lighter, like in the image https://www.pokerchipforum.com/attachments/img_2876-jpg.129845/ ?

Another question on the edges, to all readers of this nice forum. Is there a reason why there are additional two thin stripes (either "//" or "\\", same orientation as the broader stripes) on blue, red, and purple chips, but not on the other four colors? IMHO, they help a lot in counting the number of chips in a stack. They guide the eye on the way down when counting. Would it be possible to add these double-stripes in for those chips without them? Or, if anyone has good arguments for having half of the chip designs with such additional lines and half without, then I am willing to hear...

Only reason I can think the 'bonus' lines would be used on the rolling edge of some chips but not others is to help differentiate similar colors (red and orange, black and purple, blue and green, etc.). In which case I'd always want the lines on the larger of the two denominations in question (or smaller, so long as it was consistent across the set).

Great concept in theory, but that's not how they are being used here (they only appear on the blue, black, and purple chips above).

Gotta agree with this assessment -- it's pretty busy.

Fwiw, Tikis have always been one of my favorite ceramic chip designs, and I love the unique rolling edge treatments.

The Tiki design is actually one of the biggest reasons we acquired BR Pro. It was always one of my favorite chip designs!

We won't be changing the colors on the chips...it is very important to me that they be as consistent as possible. I would recommend getting a sample set of them to see first hand if they will work for you. I don't know the reasoning behind the design...just know that it's been that way since the mid-2000's when they first came out.
