Saw this set on Reddit.

I'm sure it's valuable to someone who collects Tiffany and Co. stuff but I'm doubtful anyone would buy this to use in a home game. I could be wrong though.

What's your thoughts on this set?

Link to the Reddit thread with additional pics. The comments are likely to make most chippers here cringe but that's to be expected.

I saw this too on reddit. A quick Wikipedia search shows the the tiffany blue color was first used in 1845 and they use it EVERYWHERE. Seeing as this case has nothing with that color on it I would assume it's not a real tiffany and co. product but of course I can be wrong

I have a set of Tiffany's cards. Would make a great add on. But chips are nice

Why do you put it in a terrarium?
Putting it under glass does a couple things: it keeps the dust off, it controls humidity (the silver in the set tarnishes and needs polished every so often), and it keeps my degenerate friends from reaching in to grab a stack of chips and shuffle with them.

Are the chips actually porcelain? How do they feel? Have you tried to shuffle them? Heck, have you played a game with them?

Very cool objet d'art, btw; a great novelty item for the poker player who has everything. :)

Regarding the OP and that set spotted on Reddit - going by the pictures on imgur they look a lot like dyed mother-of-pearl to me, although it's really hard to tell. The distant pictures just showing the chips from the side make it seem like they could be plastic (there are loooots of sets in this general style that are definitely plastic; still very attractive and perfectly functional for their intended purpose i.e. European-style jetons and plaques vs. American poker chips), but the close-up picture showing the iridescence makes me think they're MoP. Plastic can be iridescent as well, of course, but it has a very different kind of iridescence. These look natural, unstructured; plastic is regular and patterned.

The set is probably worth a lot more than I would pay for it, but if I could get it cheap I would definitely put it in play. But I'm weird. I enjoy the handful of antique chip sets I already have. I'm not very interested in the more common plastic sets similar to this, but something that was a) old and b) mother-of-pearl and c) carried the Tiffany's imprimatur would be an attractive item for my collection (and anything in my collection is fair game for hitting the table when I feel like it). They're definitely not the sort of thing most PCF members are looking for.

Europeans would use a set like this for various games (including home poker, maybe?) without thinking twice.

Yes, they are porcelain with a silver ring and the Tiffany stamp in the center. They have a grit to them, but they still shuffle. I’ve never played with them because I’m almost sure they would break or chip.

Not that you need a reason or justification, was there a specific purpose you wanted them for?

A Tiffany employee won the set in a company Christmas raffle, and he gave them to me for such a spectacular deal that I literally couldn’t not take them, if that makes sense.
I also happen to be a Tiffany collector in addition to a chipper, so it’s almost the coolest thing in the world to me.

How many times have you had Breakfast at Tiffany's?

Seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to get called a douche for. Lol

Do people every get embarrassed about hating people they don't even know who have more money than them? :ROFLMAO: It's so sad it's funny to me, says a lot about those people.
I haven’t called anybody a douche, but I think it’s perfectly fine to criticize a set that is unplayable because it was designed to be all form and no function. If this were a Tiffany collectors site, you might have a point. But this is a poker chip site, and as poker chips, these fail.

This site has plenty of examples of poker chips that can't be used to play poker and just sit on shelves, not to mention assorted memorabilia of poker, casinos, and gambling.

It's all good, bro.

I was also curious why someone would have a set like this and there is literally no better answer: was a gift and I happen to be a collector. Actually, I don’t think there’s any other answer that would pass muster for me, personally. Wacky stuff!

Eh, if it brings someone joy and is within their means, then I won't judge.

I just paid more than $1k for an empty film can and couldn't be happier!
