Well a recent comment by @Gear got me thinking about removing Paulson inlays for some custom Gear labels so a sacrificial $25 went under the knife...

Is it doable? Absolutely. Is it a painstaking labor of love? Yes. Worth it? I'm debating.

The laminated Gear labels look phenomenal, almost impossible to tel they're not an inlay.

This is where it gets dangerous now. Where do I draw the line? Full custom THC cash set? Just relabeled $100s as Scandia $20s?

Also I'm lucky all my fingers are still intact, but I'm gonna need to build a jig and stock up on blades and band aids if I do all of them.

Brave and bold sir. (y)

But i think when I'm ready to do custom labeled Paulsons I'll pay gear to do the inlay removal and keep all my digit intact.

Said it before in another thread - those Gear labels are ridiculously great looking in person. Both the laminated and I laminated are fantastic. I think I'll be on a quest for some relabeled singles and hundos in the near future.

Nice! Venetian/palazzos? Using a knife/exacto?

Also, do you still have any Scandia $1s? :D

Yes, yes and yes. ;)

Harvested a ton of Venetian/Palazzo chips while I was in Vegas a couple weeks ago. A couple racks of used chips for an inlay replacement project and a couple rack of near-mint chips just because it was a byproduct of harvested the more used ones.

Just used a utility knife for those. It's labor intensive, but with practice it gets (slightly) easier. Still, very time consuming and and potentially dangerous if you're not paying attention (and when I say dangerous, I meant to the chips, cuts on your fingers can heal, not so much clay).

I will have some extra Scandia $1 chips when all is said and done. Need any?

Wow I did not know the inlays came out. A lot of thoughts going through my head now. Some good, some bad. Would it work on all Paulsons? Harvested $1 chips is one thing but collectible chips like Scandias? Would this get Paulson back in the home market or the reason they left?

Disclaimer: Did not not bother me at all when I relabeled some Parkers Bud Jones

Thanks for sharing and be careful

Just to be clear, they don't come out easily. It's not like popping off an ASM inlay. The inlays are quite attached to the clay and really don't want to let go. It's more like tearing off inlays than popping off inlays.

On average, how long per chip to remove the inlay do you think?

With so many $1 and $2 casino Paulsons out there the possibilities are huge!

This.

And I could use between 32 and 132 Scandia $1s haha. There's a rack of overpriced ones on fleabay so we'll see.

I'd guess around 1 min per chip once you get the hang of it. Probably slower than milling hotstamps haha.

I think I'm gonna turn one barrel of $100s into $20s for our cash game

If the chips are in really good condition, you can simply add a vinyl label (also available from @Gear ), which can be later removed with no harm to the chips.

Maybe you know something I don't (always a possibility!) but I think you are vastly underestimating how long this takes. I've found it's more like 5+ minutes per chip being careful and thorough.

FWIW, inlay removal is WAY slower than milling.

Maybe have Wifey put up a video of you doing your label removal sometime Chris. I know I would enjoy watching that.

I actually asked if I could a while back, and he decided it was a "trade secret".

I can attest, Gear has put a lot of thought and effort into how to do this, and improve methods wherever possible.
And to use his favorite quote:

I'd say if he's got a method for effectively and non-damagingly doing this without his fingers ending up like Joker's face, he's got something worth his price haha.

Makes sense. I know I would not want to do this for myself. I'll pay to have the professionals do it for me. Just curious though.

try using a soldering iron and scalpel to heat the center first to create a soft part to START the area you want to penetrate. also makes it much easier get under the inlay. But use caution, because it will go through, well, like butter.
