So I've been getting the itch lately to build another poker table. I'd like to use an old, large dining room table. One that has pedestals and the top will sit over the poker table.

My question to people with a dining top poker table: Does the table rest on the rail or playing surface, or something else? If it rests on the rail, does this eliminate the possibility of cup holders in the rail?

You can absolutely have cupholders in the rail and have a dining top rest on it.
If the table is big/wide enough, you could have the cupholders in the playing surface, right next to the rail, and still have enough of area outside the betting line.
Given the dining top and all the weight it 'll be carrying, I guess you 'll need a heavy duty foam for the rail.
