This is like the Dunes Paulson tourney set that I have - you can't put a price on it really because there isn't high enough transactional volume. It's entirely dependent on what someone will pay and how willing you are to sell.

If these were Vineyards, we'd have some history to work off. PNY and we'd have a little more. For better or worse, sets of the Ritz are very, very rare and even individual chips aren't that common.

One of the last ones I saw that sold had a bunch of 25's and was just under 500 chips and it went for under $300o. It was lighter on the higher denoms so this could go for close to $5000. That is just a guess though.

OOPS edit it to $3000

I think if you sold them one barrel at a time, AND found enough Ritz collectors still around to buy them all, you MIGHT be able to get to $5000-$5500. Problem is they haven't really been traded/collected recently, and most of the old timers that collected them haven't been seen in a while (no idea if they're still lurking and waiting for Ritz to come up...)

As a set, they'd snap-sell at $3500 I suspect (and no, I wouldn't be buying them ;)) $4000 would be tougher sell, but I think it would happen. Not sure about anything higher than that.

I'd say the set should fetch $6000. I will say this. When I had these guys on the table, I felt as if I had the best chips in the country. Three different denoms of Oversized goodness with great colors. The chocolate goodness of the five thousands is something to behold.

There is some merit to Bens statement. We were lucky up here in the NH/MA area since we had 4 collectors with nice playable sets for years. It was our standard "proud" tourney set the way Berg's set is now with his OG Dunes. So much in chipping sets has changed since the Ritz years. My memory is foggy but I seem to remember:

$25's - $3 per
$100's - $3 then $5 per
$500's - $8 per
$1000's - $10 per
$5000's - $20 per

No clue your denom amounts but that was it back then. By far one of the top 2 tourney sets I've ever played. They have performance power to them, they feel great.

Legend617 in East Boston still has his set, he's was ALWAYS wheeling and dealing Ritz for many years, he will help you historically if you need.

This set fulfills many desirables for epic ness-

Casino set
Oversized chips
Oversized inlays
Beautiful design and spot coordination
Easily as beautiful as any other set recently sold

So if you get 15 a chip for the $500's and 1k's and 20 a chip for the 5k's those 300 chips get you in the 5k range. The 25's and hundos added on definitely put it in the $5500 range. Easily.

Out of my range but holy cow what a set.

IIRC what I've seen (not much recently, mostly based on 3-4 years ago):

$25s: $1.50 per (by the rack)
$100s: - $3-$4 per (by the rack)
$500s: $10-$12 per (by the barrel)
$1000s: $14-$16 per (by the barrel)
$5000s: $20-$22 per (by the few chips to a barrel - seeing a whole rack is REALLY uncommon)

Okay, here goes.....

$3000, and not a penny more. That's all they are worth to me, and that's pushing it. And the only reason I would even make an offer is to flip them to somebody who wanted them badly enough to pay more but missed their chance at these. I have zero interest in owning a set myself.

One of the most overrated sets in all of chipping history imo. I can think of at least a dozen sets with more appeal to me personally, nearly all of which are 'valued' at much, much less. With the too-busy gaudy oversize inlays, these are a classical example of a major waste of some great-looking clay slugs.

There.... somebody had to say it. And.I'm not alone with my opinion of the Ritz chips, either.

I seem to remember someone on here having a chip price algorithm app, but I can't remember who it was. Anyone?

Someone mentioned they had one in the thread about flipping/secondary market that got a little heated. Can't find it right now but that's where I saw it.

Totally agree and I should have just let them be destroyed!

Ritz is sadly one of the Whale sets that I have never played with. I remember when Berg orchestrated the group buy in which he never ended up with any chips and a whole bunch of them were at his house, but they never got in play.

Pricing is tough, I think if you find a buyer who has always wanted a ritz set and appreciates how exclusive they were back before the chip room boom, then Id think you could get 5-6K. If you are just listing them on PCF and there is not someone coveting this set, then 3-4K seems to be an inflection point.

This very well may be one of those sets (there are a couple of others, too) where people think that they are worth more than they are actually willing to pay themselves. So, in those cases, if nobody is willing to pony up the funds, are they ~really~ worth as much as people think?

Value and worth are pretty fickle intangibles at times. Paging @RainmanTrail and his chip pricing tool.

I heard that app melted down when the Chiproom relisted Horshoe $1s with no household minimums at .59 each. Now its on a perpetual tic-tac-toe loop like Joshua in War Games.

The only way to win is not to pay. I mean play.

Discussion can continue. Still hoping to hear from a few others. IF you would like to make an OFFER, shoot me an email or PM. Thank you.
