Hello guys, I am new here and this is my first post, so I don't even know if I'm posting this in the right section. Anyway.

I am lookig to buy a poker set, and I have found the perfect seller, who will let me choose the amount of chips from each denomination, but that is where my problem begins...
I am buying a 500 chip set, and I am looking to play a 25/50 cash game with my friends. I was told a good cash game has a starting stack of 100 to 300 BB, but I am looking to get 25-50-100-500-1000 denominations, since I like the colors (it sounds stupid I know). I would alos like to be able to host a small tournament with maybe two tables, but only ocasionally, I will be playing cash games mainly. Would anybody care to maybe give me their own breakdown of their 500 chips set, that worked for them? I am open to change the denominations, just let me know if you have a breakdown that works for you. If there is already a thread that works for my situation, please let me know!

Thx in advance for your help

This is for $25/$50 not $.25/$.50? You don’t need the $.50’s. If it’s $.25/$.50 do:
$.25 -100
$1 - 200
$5 - 200
$25 - 80
$100 - 20

.25/.50 cash game?

Whatever you do, don't get both .25 and .50 chips. You will regret it later.

100 x .25
200 x 1
200 x 5
80 x 25
20 x 100

I know this is 600 chips. This would be perfect for cash games and the occasional tourney.
Thx alot for the swift response, I will try it like that, and let you know when I get the set. Kind of excited getting my first quality set!! Thx again guys

As noted, never have $0.25 and $0.50 chips together. Its a major redundancy issue. Each chip denomination should be 4x-5x of the previous one....not 2x.

From experience if you felt your game will grow in future you can get lesser frac and invest them in higher demo for future sake, 25c chip are only mostly used at the pre flop stage and you only need 6-8 25c chip per person and it more than enough.

Also another pro is frac and way expensive in casino set too if you buying those in future

For 500 chip set :

25c/$1/$5$/$25/$100 80/180/160/60/20 will give you bank roll of $4500 that will be just enough to even cover stake up from 25c/50c to $1/$1 game and barely for $1/$2

Nothing to add to the already good advice above from other posters, just wanted to say welcome! Where in Switzerland are you located?

Or if you like the $.50 colors more play a $.50/$.50 not many people are folding in a home game for $.25 anyway. I prefer the $.25 chips as it offers way more flexibility in the future and follows the 4/5 value increase.

Wow, I am actually amazed at the ton of advice you guys are giving, you can genuinely sense the passion and knowledge behind each response lol, I really appreciate it!

I currently live near lausanne, so quite far from Zurich

When the question comes up and is specific to 0.25-0.50 blinds, I think we should raise the question of reflexively including hundreds in breakdowns for smaller sets.

To me, the ideal breakdown covers 30 max buy-ins per table and consists of about half of the "workhorse" chips needed for that state. Including hundreds seems overkill to me unless we are talking about particularly deep 0.50-1 games or 1-2 games. But if 0.25-0.50 is the starting point, unless it's a deeper game with 100 buy-in or more. Targeting a bank around 2000 that's mostly lower chips makes more sense to me.

I would recommend this breakdown. for 500 chips: 100/200/160/40 of 0.25/1/5/25 (or 20), bank of 2025 (or 1925 if twenties are you value store chip). For 600 add a rack of singles.

Now if you have larger buy ins, you may need to target a bank closer to 3000, and probably more fives than ones, so then maybe doing 100/120/200/80 of 0.25/1/5/25 for a bank of 3145 makes more sense. On the other hand, this would not be a very good set at all if downstaking to 0.25-0.25.

So make sure you give some thought to the true range of stakes. Doing more than 4 denoms in a 500 set is tight and covering more than 2 levels is tight as well.

It really is flexible that with just 1 barrel of hundos can make 1/2 1/3 stake playable with the existing set.

Before Covid, we get to travel to Malaysia a lot and Malaysia Currency is 3x lesser of Singapore $. Thus in Singapore we will be playing 50c/$1 whereas in Malaysia we will be playing $1/$3. It basically the same value in currency but will required the Hundos for the higher stake

All good advice and all, BUT... This is the Poker CHIP Forum. Nobody even asked what CHIPS are you buying???
Hahahah, I guess you're not wrong. I'm going for some EPT replicas, as I find the chips absolutely stunning, and like the idea to think i'm one of the pros making the final table and playing for big prizes lol
