I’m sure that others have brought up this very topic, and I got spoiled early on by skipping injection-molded chips and China clays and jumping straight on the Paulson train, but I CANNOT decide between RHCs and THCs!

Aesthetically, the THC mold is FAR superior. No question about it. However, the RHC mold just feels so much better, especially when shuffling chips.

I missed out on other Paulson molds like the Pips mold, the Pineapple mold, etc. I think it’d be really interesting to shuffle some SDPM chips as they have the same exposed chip area as RHCs, and I once heard @abby99 say that they were the best feeling chips out there.

What’re your thoughts on different Paulson molds?

I've got a few racks of these red sdpm t100s and I have to say they shuffle like butter. I would say they are my favourite chip to shuffle (blasphemy, don't tell @RocAFella1 I said that lol). They feel perfect.

THC > RHC though and it's not even close

If you like the RHC mold then stop there. There are many more options at generally a lower cost than THC.

My personal preference is THC & Card Pip (suits) mold over RHC and I think you will find that THC > RHC is the general preference consensus. But there are a lot less options for THC which sucks. But honestly I really like Card & Pip almost over THC while most people wouldn’t agree it doesn’t matter to me. Go with what you prefer.

I know it’s not wise to hold my breath, but it’d be really nice to see Paulson offer the suits mold to the public again.

I’d agree for the most part however I really enjoy shuffling leaded THC nearly as much as RHC and more so when you factor in not having to worry about nicking a chip in the first 5 minutes of shuffling :D

^^ stellar set Mike ^^

Just from shuffling perspective (and only Paulson)

Broken in leaded THC >broken in leaded RHC > broken in non leaded THC >broken in non leaded RHC > Mint chips (RHC, THC, leaded, non leaded)

Agreed. Although those with big chipset collections would probably see a big hit in the value of their collection.

If I lost all sense and decided to go for RHC chips, I’m sure I’d seek out leaded RHCs with textured inlays.
I’m shocked to read that some people like shuffling RHC chips better. But maybe I’ve never thought about it. I guess I’ll have to dig some out and compare.
I’ll agree that the sdpm house mold looks similar to RHC, that’s one of the reasons I’ve avoided them. But the bottom line is, buy what you like. And if you like RHCs better, fly your freak flag high!

I’ve never handled those. I’ve read from more than one person that the suits mold is actually quite slippery, but I can’t say I’ve seen any consensus on that.

I’m an old fashioned leaded THC fan most of all. Feel trumps looks in my view (there’s no accounting for taste).

I seriously doubt that, unless you're referring to the value of large chip sets made using the card pip mold and PAULSON CHIPS mold..... which would surely drop, especially if they resumed production of the previously-made home market sets. Market values would instantly be cut in half or more.

Values of THC sets (especially leaded) and many casino RHC sets would not be significantly affected.

And for the record, I'm a hard-core THC mold guy, preferably leaded with shaped textured inlays. But pretty much any THC mold chip blows away any other Paulson mold except maybe IHC molds without oversize inlays, imo. And like @Thomacetti, I prefer them slightly broken in.

Did I? THC is my favorite Paulson mold, by far.

Maybe I misspoke. I thought I remembered seeing you say that, but it could’ve been that the SDPM’s were one of the best feeling chips out there to you.

I don't know what it is about the SDPMs, they just have that "slightly used" and "rubbery" Paulson feel, yet not over-worn. It's hard to explain. But when you feel it - you know it.

The SDPMs are definitely not the sexiest Paulsons out there, but as my first playable Paulson set, they are still my favorite, and hold a very special place in my heart. :p If I ever got to a day when I had to sell off all of my chips, I'd still have to keep a 500-600 set of SDPMs, just for the memories.

That being said, you can't go wrong with either. THC and RHC are both deadly!

That's exactly what I feel about them. I can never explain it, but there is something amazing about the way they feel

You are right. I was thinking if Paulson made home sets again in general. I wasn’t thinking card and pip specifically. Although if they did widely produce card and pip mold sets of many different varieties and also allowed custom inlay production I do think it would hurt some existing set values, especially RHC. A lot of people I believe prefer card and pip over RHC but collect and assemble RHC because of the availability and variety of option, but because of preference of RHC over card and pip.

I’ve had a few RHC and Paulson mold sets and have a few THC and 43mm IHC sets.

Personally, I realized I’m not a big fan of the RHCs and have sold my sets since. For me, when it comes to Paulson chips, I’d go (based on my own experience): THC, IHC, Paulson mold, RHC.

As others have said though, buy and keep whatever you like.

I also just realized I’ve never handled any leaded THC or RHC chips! :wow: Someone wanna help me out there? (Say, those coke giraffes are leaded, aren’t they??)

Happy to ship you over a worn shuffle stack (sorry the cocaine giraffes are staying)

Man, I like threads like this, only because there's no consensus to it.

I didn't understand the fuss with THC molded chips until I got a hold of some. The weight of the leaded variety, and even nonleaded, are superior to RHC molded chips in terms of feel, stackability, and durability. I don't shuffle much so I can't comment on that, unfortunately.

That being said, my relabled RHC Jack's blow and CPC chip I have out of the water. CPC's custom options are second to none, but the chips feel noticeably lighter than any Paulson chip. Many CPC chip molds feel like plastic even though I know they are not, but the molds with outer rings and plain mold feel less so.

I love the looks and asthetics of my Rounders chips on the CSQ mold, but they feel light to me. My Key Wests on the H mold feel heavier and more substantial but although I haven't personally experienced this, a couple here have commented on spinners being present on the H mold chips. Plain mold and B mold are my personal favorites. A mold is really nice too. I outright dislike the feel of the small crowns despite the history of the mold. Can't comment on the others as I don't have any shuffle stacks of them.

Quality control issues aside, BCC chips are right up there with THC Paulson's, IMO. My web molded Riverboats feel spectacular. Really square and sharp edges, they stack and feel great, but they're lighter than the Medium Greek Key molded Capital Room sample that I have. Which reminds me, @Marhault , we need to plan our surgical approach in asking GPI/Angel about getting the previous BCC molds into the home market if they weren't thrown in the garbage years ago. Anyone with experience or a background in marketing, PM me.

Anyway, this is where I rank things:

1. THC leaded
2. THC non leaded
3. BCC Web Mold
4. BCC MGK Mold
5. RHC Mold
6. CPC Plain Mold
7. CPC B Mold
8. CPC A Mold
9. CPC H Mold
10. CPC CSQ Mold
11. Everything else

TRK's I'm sure would be towards the top end of the list, but I only have singles.

If you can find old RHC chips with textured inlays, they are close to THC chips in feel and shuffle. But they are rare, and RHC chips with smooth inlays feel cheap to me and seem to get flea bites on mint chips when you use them much more easily.

Honestly, even the lammer mold would be awesome to release to the home market!

I wish I had stacks of all the CPC molds in front of me. I haven’t handled them all, but of the ones I have handled, I know there’s at least a handful I’d put ahead of RHCs.
