Our cash games are mostly 5c/10c. For years we have used a cheap set of chips with dollar denominations. We use the $5 for a nickel, $25 for the quarter, $100 for the dollar, etc.

I would really like to get a nicer set of chips (modest to mid price budget .30 - .40 per chip), but there aren't many options for a 5c chip.

I really like the Majestics, but 5c chips are mostly non-existent. My wife ruled out the Pharaoh CC's. Key West is too expensive.

What other choices can I look for? (I'm trying to avoid re-labelling if possible, because, you know...laziness)

If you put a wanted add in the classifieds section you would probably be able to find some Majestic 5c for sale.

You could also see if @Gear makes the 5c majestic label. If so, you could buy blank majestic and relabel those. Labeling blank chips if very easy.

If your crew are used to using $5 as 5c and you really don't want to relabel and the Mejestic 5c is not available then I would get a non-currency set. 5 chips are easy to find so something like the Showdown set from Apache will have 5 & 10 and no $ sign. They're cheap at 16c per chip.

Another option is to just play a 10c/10c game or even 10c/20c. Our friendly game use to have nickels for years and we finally did away with them and just play 10c/20c. It works much better.

Honestly nickels are worthless in real life...

Get a couple racks of dimes (still hard to find) and away you go.

I just ordered some Claysmith samples, including Milano and Showdown. I was considering the Showdown for a cheap tourney set because they don't have a dollar sign. I'm sure I'll end up getting Majestics for our cash set and relabelling. I'll either match the label and just make nickels, or create an entire custom label set. (So much for laziness!)

I was actually just reading through the Paymaster thread. GOCC ceramics are a lot more than I wanted to spend, but those chips are SICK! I guess this is how it starts, the road to being a "chipper."

Predicting the future: Buy a set of Showdown chips to use for now. Design and purchase custom ceramics when funds become available. (My wife is going to be soooooo happy!)

i was thinking about milano but i like how the majestics look. if you wanna go milano the cheapest place i found was

I've actually been following your thread on your cash set/tourney set. Lots of good info about chip counts / starting stacks, etc. We seem to be suffering from the same affliction: We came here to ask questions / look for deals, and we are getting drawn into the cult of Chipping! :ROFLMAO::)

lol ya i got sucked in from @Hobbyphilic. Came across a few of his youtube videos on accident and started watching them all. Then all of a sudden all i could think about was poker chips lol. i started ordering samples, joined the forum to learn and ask questions from the community. I don't even play live poker yet ive online played online. So all this has made me want to host my own games with friends. as soon as i can get everything its on! just need a table now and im ready! I fell into the rabbit hole for sure and its been awesome so far. This community is very positive, friendly and helpful. I have a feeling you might stick around lol

    I resemble that remark!

I think the best advice here is to order samples and it's good advice. I got a mixed set from Apache and it's very very interesting to me. Most people here want a casino feel and Paulsons will give you that with china clays being a poor approximation at a fraction of the price. Although I appreciate the Paulson quality and would like a set of Elites, I'm also pretty pleased with ABS and ceramic chips. If I fall down the chipping rabbit hole, it's likely I'll be looking for Bud Jones or doing a custom ceramic rather then ex-casino chips or CPC.

Send @Gear a note. I bought a bunch of majestics off him over the winter (wanted orange 5k instead of brown). He had a bunch of blanks and a bunch pre labeled. He also has the rights to print new labels and will put them on for you too (for a fee maybe). Anyway send him a note I bet he hooks you up.

I predict within 3 months you will be actively considering old Paulson's or a custom CPC set.

I predict within 3 days you will be playing with the chip design tool.

Already there! LOL. I've been reading through the chip projects in the custom chip threads, and all the classifieds. All it takes is money...
