Over the past few months, we’ve been busy testing prototypes and preparing to launch our poker chip set. We’re incredibly grateful to the PCF members who helped us refine the design with their time and honest feedback.

Together, we’ve scrutinized every detail—material, finishing, weight, sound, custom molding, whether to use different designs on both sides, spelled-out numbers, denomination arrangement, and even tough calls like removing edge spots and dollar signs. We realized there’s no single perfect choice, but thoughtful trade-offs can create a cohesive and refined experience.

Our goal remains clear: to broaden appreciation for quality poker chips. We’re excited to learn and grow with this passionate community. The Deposit Box poker set currently going Live on Kickstarter.

Following is an exclusive overview of the project.
The Deposit Box
---

Crafted by an authentic vault maker, the deposit box is designed to organize, protect, and transport up to six chip trays (six hundred chips). Whether you’re safeguarding your own collection or opting for our complete poker system—featuring Curious Cask Reserve Chips and premium accessories—it provides the perfect foundation for any gathering.

To show our appreciation for the community—and in the spirit of the holiday gifting season—we’re including 20 extra chips in the denomination of your choice with any set pledged through our campaign! Preferences will be collected via the pledge manager after the campaign concludes.

And don’t worry—each Deposit Box holds up to six hundred chips, so there’s plenty of room for twenty more.

Curious Cask Chip Tray Specifications | Dimensions: L 208mm (8.2”) x W 79mm (3.1”) x H 28mm (1.1”), weighing 132 grams, and compatible with ⌀39/40mm chips (3.35/3.4mm thickness)

Note & Disclaimer:
Our chip trays are custom-designed for our Reserve Chips, with a thickness of approximately 3.4mm, offering precise tolerance to prevent scratches and ensure a seamless fit into our Deposit Box. Based on previous feedback, we’ve slightly reduced the width of the chip channels, though they may still be considered wide for certain chips. CPC chips should fit reasonably well, though individual perception may vary.

For collectors using thinner chips like Paulsons and planning to use the Deposit Box for personal collections, we recommend adding spacers to our trays or using your own chip trays. Please double-check the Deposit Box’s inner dimensions and your chip trays’ specifications to ensure the best fit.

Deposit Box Features
Outer Dimension

Inner Dimension | L487mm (19.17”) x W 221mm (8.7”) x H 63mm (2.48”)
Durable Build | Made from 1mm thick steel plates — 40% thicker than standard deposit boxes.

Pretty Cool design / concept for a storage case, GL with your Kickstarter

The only concern I have is how the default rack will not be a tight fit for Paulson, although I understand it make sense to make it fit to your custom chips but it limited the potential, also adding an additional option for a 33mm rack will not hurt your sales number too

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback! We included a note about chip tray and chip compatibility. Our current priority is ensuring seamless fitment within our product line and delivering the best possible set. Expanding compatibility and product offerings will be our next step as we continue to grow.

Feel free to visit our Kickstarter page for real images and insights into the development of The Deposit Box. We truly appreciate everyone’s input and hope you’ll be part of our journey.

I'm not a fan of kickstarter, the money they take and the uncertainty of the product without a refund, makes it not appealing.

Is there an avenue for a sample set of chips, so I can see the colors, and feel the texture?

I'm not a Vegas fan or a tournament player, would you have a Cali offering?

The case is cool, little gimmicky but I really like it! Would they fit other racks, would they be sold individually?

Ill echo others, I like the case and could see myself using it but don't like your chips at all and wouldnt want to buy one if it doesn't fit my chips securely.

Love the direction, very cool stuff!

This may be a dumb question if I’m missing something, but do you have to remove some chips from a rack in order to remove that rack to be able to reach the last rack under the hinges?

I think the chips are cool, simple but unique. I don’t love the muted colors, I like chips that really pop, but obviously that’s just a personal opinion. I second @Machine ‘s question, will you be offering sample sets? I think some samples for us to actually feel and shuffle for some time would go a long way for some people’s opinions.

I do really like how unique this case is and how you took an idea and implemented it well, as a mechanical engineer, I appreciate what you’ve done here. Little concerned about the price point since there are options like Apache cases that scratch the itch fine and don’t hurt the wallet, though I understand why the price is what it is, it’s clearly well made and not cheap to manufacture. But the idea of having a handful and being able to stack them like vault boxes, while very cool, is probably going to be very few and far between in reality. I could see owning one for cool factor and bringing it to games assuming it travels well, but I don’t see myself putting up that much for a case multiple times over.

Just some thoughts, overall very impressed and will be following to see what the future holds! Good work!

So it‘s 13kg(!) for transporting 600chips?!
7kg the case with empty racks/trays.
Is it made out of tungsten?

The empty box with trays weighs under 3.5kg. It's made from 1mm steel sheet. The chips are 11g each, so 500 chips add up to 5.5kg. We’ve also included a double cardboard box setup to ensure safe transportation, which adds another 3.5kg, plus 500g for the dealer button and cards. Altogether approx. 13KG

Thanks for the thoughtful questions—these aren’t bad at all!

Yes, you’ll need to remove trays to access the last one under the hinge. One workaround we’ve tested is placing the Flex Tray under the hinge, making all 500 chips accessible from the first five rows. The trade-off is losing some front storage space.

On padding: we partnered with a premium “gaming mouse pad” manufacturer to develop the interior padding. It’s made from 6mm and 3mm rubber, laminated with fabric on both top and bottom for a snug, protective fit—you won’t hear chips rattling around once the box is clicked tight. For the upgraded Midnight Box, we’ve replaced the fabric with soft natural grain leather.

Thanks for the great question about samples! We’ve seeded a few of our 25 prototypes to members here, and more videos and feedback will be shared in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can check out real images and videos of the set on our Kickstarter page.

That said, the prototypes used Matsui chips, but for production, we’ve opted for a different blend of materials and custom molding. Production images will be shared once the campaign is successfully funded, but the Deposit Box itself is already fully made and ready.

For those eager to see and feel the chips before committing, we understand the hesitation. You’re welcome to wait until after the campaign ends, as we plan to seed sampler sets to reputable members here. However, if you’d like to support us in reaching the campaign goal, we recommend backing our Macaron Taster on Kickstarter. Every pledge helps us get closer to making this project a reality.

Thank you again for your continued interest and thoughtful feedback—it means a lot to us!

For those who might be skeptical about Kickstarter, this isn’t our first rodeo. We successfully funded and delivered our first campaign, The Whiskey Playing Cards, to 441 backers worldwide.

For this campaign, we’ve set a realistic (but high) funding goal to ensure smooth production and timely fulfillment. If the campaign doesn’t reach its goal, you won’t be charged. We’ve laid the groundwork, secured trusted manufacturing partners, and are fully prepared to begin production once we hit our target.

I guess I'm getting old, this new way of doing business still kind of blows my mind. You're asking for funding of a product that i can't physically see or touch, prototypes made by a different company than you plan of using for production, also with different materials? Maybe I'm out of touch...
...But, I do love poker chips. These, however, do nothing for me. As a great chipper once said, "you always know where you stand with Kerry," so here goes. I'll try to be nice. Great marketing wording to praise your unimaginative chips as an escape from the jungles of poker to a zen like spa experience. Could you not find any mundane colors to add as spot patterns, or, would spot progression further the chaos of the crazy environment of the poker table?

The carrying case is unique and interesting. Aside from that, and the neat little 20 chip boxes, there is nothing that moves the interest meter. I'm a snap fold on this.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes exclusive just for PCF: During our load testing, we placed 60kg of steel plates inside our Deposit Box and hung it for an entire day to test its load capacity and latch strength. Throughout the day, we’d walk by and give it a good kick—just to be sure it could handle the toughest game nights!

I appreciate your candid feedback. While this approach may seem unconventional, crowdfunding has been enabling creators to bring unique products to life for over a decade, and e-commerce has reshaped modern business even longer. We understand the value of seeing and touching products in person, but providing samples to everyone simply isn’t feasible.

That said, as we mentioned before, we plan to continue seeding reputable members on PCF to gather valuable feedback and build trust within the community.

Our descriptions aren’t just marketing fluff—they reflect over a year and a half of dedicated design, prototyping, and collaboration with manufacturers to develop a product we’re proud of. If anything, our words may fall short of capturing the hard work behind the scenes. If this still doesn’t resonate with you, we respect that. As they say, “Life is short. Smile while you still have teeth.”

Been burned too many times on big ticket Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns. Never again.

There are a lot of scams on kickstarter, yes. And a lot of projects which are under researched, under developed, and never going to make it to market with their budget/timeline. I've certainly been burned by a couple.

But it's also allows people to bring items and businesses to life which they may otherwise have been unable to fund and I've gotten some real gems from it.

The chips aren't really anything I'm interested in for myself, but I like that you went for a style and stuck with it. And the case is kind of cool, and in keeping with everyone talking about their chips moving in and out of "the vault" (surely they don't all have actual vaults, right?)

In line with that, any thoughts on offering a rack for them? Perhaps a slightly discounted 5-box set billed as the chip vault?

I dunno, just spitballing, I don't know that I'd buy such a thing but it sounds like fun if you get enough orders/interest to justify it.

Good luck with it. Im sure there’s a market for this, but I don’t think you’ll find it at PCF. My impression of PCFers is that they want the stuff you can’t buy off the shelf - either customized chips or actual casino chips. They come here looking for an alternative to the kind of generic chips you’re selling.

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback! We actually have the option to pledge for a Deposit Box set and add up to four more through Kickstarter’s add-on system. While we aren’t offering a bundled discount for the backers on Kickstarter, if you’re seriously considering pledging, feel free to message us directly. We might be able to place you in our reviewer tier, which comes with a special discount in exchange for sharing your experience with the community. We'd love to hear from you.

Good luck, and thanks for sharing. I see the aesthetic and positioning you’re going for - sleek, modern, “professional” - and think you’ve executed it well, but it’s not my personal preference. The deposit box-style case is also a nice touch.

I imagine this will be appealing to people outside of this forum - people who want an off-the-shelf solution and get playing. I think you’ve achieved that. I also appreciate the thoughtful breakdowns and denominations, something you don’t get with most other out of the box sets.

Love the deposit box, would buy if that was sold standalone in black - just don't personally like the blue (assume likely a 4th color choice across the board behind black, white, red if following somewhat normal color trends). Good luck though!

To be honest, looking again at your product page - I'll give some more candid feedback if open to it:

IMO... Your chips are priced too high for the general market, and design/materials aren't nice enough to capture the niche market.

If I'm doing the math correctly (in USD) your chips will run ~$0.40 per.. this puts you will into the real entry point of the "luxury" chip demographic (and still around 2x the price point of Monte Carlos/Casino Royales, and in line with Majestics/Tinas), where the market is a hell of a lot smaller. To be successful here you'll need to offer a massive value for quality, have a design that stands above the rest, or open up an adjacent market like board gamers. Frankly I think the design is nice, but minimalistic and nothing exceptional, and value just isn't there vs competitive products. Secondarily, I'm also concerned around how slippery those chips may end up being without a clear texture in your mold.

Your prior kickstarter did as well as it did (again IMO) because it appealed more toward the upper end of the mainstream demographic, and had a theme most could relate to. It didn't appeal as much to poker nerds (e.g. used paper stock) directly.

That said, I stand behind your case being the best part of your kickstarter, where we could definitely be a large purchase demographic. I could see more adoption with less aggressive or more color choices, but in reality given the value of chips held.. would likely expect a trickle of orders to start until community proven (I don't care how the case holds, I want to see how the chips inside hold up).

Again, I do really love some of the work you've done, and hope to be proven wrong, but I think you might want to consider rescoping the project if things don't go the way you initially planned. I just feel like this kickstarter doesn't have a target demographic, and where you've designed/tested - it doesn't feel like it's coming from a position of "what would chippers/nerds" want. At higher price points... capture the nerds and the general audience will follow.

Appreciate the thoughtful feedback. Our mission has always been to build a bridge between the core poker chip community and a broader audience that values the craftsmanship and design behind premium poker chips. In other words, provide affordable premium chips for the core poker community while delivering a top-tier pricing for the broader public. We recognize that balancing both worlds is ambitious, which is why we’re here—sharing our journey with open eyes and listening ears.

When it comes to design and color, we took a more understated approach, trusting our talented design team to adapt and evolve based on market response. Our current focus has been on perfecting material and manufacturing—areas we knew we had to get right to the last detail

We’re confident in the chip formula we’ve developed. Our goal was to create chips inspired by traditional leaded clay chips, using a proprietary ceramic blend that delivers the same satisfying sound, weight (~11-12g without metal inserts), and tactile feel. This approach allows us to honor the classic poker experience while advancing production techniques with a focus on sustainability, manufacturing stability, and efficiency.

We have deep respect for traditional clay chips and their iconic place in poker culture. We’re not trying to replace them; rather, we see an opportunity to expand what’s possible—both have their strengths and can coexist while offering something distinct. Our aim is to complement the market with thoughtfully crafted, premium chips built from a fresh perspective.

As for the Deposit Boxes, we plan to introduce more color options in the future. Stay tuned—more videos showcasing the box are coming soon!
