I was listening to a podcast that discussed a group on Reddit doing this with a racing singlet. I thought it would be cool to get a card cover out to as many casinos as possible, ideally in all 50 states and internationally (local PCF games if your state doesn't have casinos).

This card capper was probably made around 2005 when a group of locals who met at homepokertourney.com started hosting rotating games. I don't think anyone else in that group is still active. I know Made in Detroit was in that group, as I recall playing at his house (that's the only tournament I've ever played in that we colored up, and then the next blind level, we had to color down!). Midnight Rose was also part of the group. @detroitdad, were you around then? Pretty sure the chip was designed by Austin5String and printed by ABC Gifts and Awards. I stuck the chip in an air tite and viola! -- its a card cover!

The Rules (stolen heavily from the Reddit thread):

How The Traveling Card Cover Works
It's basically an informal chain where each person gets the card cover, uses it at a casino, then sends it to the next person. I'm not making any kind of schedule; instead, check this thread for requests. If you'd like to take part, post in the thread and (if applicable), post a date when you hope to get it and where you are taking it. If its going to a tournament with a specific date, post that too. Because of the loose, casual nature of this project, no one is guaranteed to get the card cover on a specific requested dates. The best way to get the card cover is to be a squeaky wheel... post about it a few times and remind people as the date gets closer and hopefully, the person in possession of the card cover will forward it to you. I'd prefer to get the card cover out to the casino as soon as possible, so once you receive it, please try to take it to the casino within a week or so. The order of who gets it is completely up to whoever has the card cover at any given time.

Once you have the card cover, take picture(s) of you using it. Be creative. Chip porn and/or pics that highlight the casino/card room/home game you are at are appreciated. The idea here is to spread the joy of poker, to share with each other, to learn about each other, and to just have fun. After a trip report, anyone who wants it next can post up their requests.

When you're done, write up a trip report and post it in this thread along with your pictures. Decide who gets it next and get an address via PM. Its a cheap card cover, so not much would be lost if it didn't make it to its next destination, but you should plan to ship it to the next person First Class in a bubble mailer (should be about $3 CONUS). Then let us know where you are mailing the card cover next. I'll see if I can map its route.

The Rules
  1. Most importantly: By participating, you agree that you'll send the card cover to the next person in a prompt fashion at your own expense and with some kind of tracking number. This project will not work if people slack on sending the card cover out. Ideally, this will reach a new person every couple of weeks. Don't hold on to it for two months! Reviewing the thread will indicate the person who currently has the card cover, so you will be shamed for all eternity if you don't send it to the next person. Look, I can always buy another card cover, but part of the fun is going to be watching it travel around the world. Don't let us all down!
  2. Yes, you can get the Traveling Card Cover more than once. Priority should be given to new people who haven't had a chance yet, but if you would like to request to get it a second time, you are more than welcome, especially if the scheduling allows!

  3. You are under no obligation to ship it internationally. It would be nice if you did, but if you can't afford it, please don't put yourself out. If you do ship the card cover internationally, you will have to fill out a customs form. I recommend that you put something like "card cover" as the name of the product and a very low number like "$3" as the value.

  4. I reserve the right to amend these rules just in case situations come up that I failed to foresee.

The card cover will make its debut at the Fish & Chips Poker Tour Season 9 Event 5 this Saturday at my house. So who wants it next?

Yes sir I was. I was at that game that you mention with the color up and color down fiasco. The first cash game I ever played in was when you hosted and we played in your basement.

I wasn't positive that you were part of the group then...

That league wasn't long lived, and probably 8 or fewer of these chips were made, I'd guess.

Ortzy and Ryder8 (Ray S.) were definitely part of that group. What about @mike32? hachkc too and maybe hubbleo (Jim O.).

Looks like we were active 2006-2011ish.

I was not part of the MTPL. I did play with several of the people in my first cash game with this group at Bill's house probably around 2007-2008. I remember I flopped trip 4's and Bill sucked out on me with a suited J6 or something to hit his flush on the river. I didn't really say anything but Ray read him the riot act about his terrible call! I also almost hit a deer by Bill's house and was a little freaked out about that lol.

I won the first hand and after an orbit, I was up 70BB (we started with 200 BB).

After that, I went pretty card dead. One of the few PP's I had was JJ under the gun. Raised 4xBB and it folded back to me.

I managed to limp to the final table on a rebuy stack with an M of about 2. Going from two 5-handed tables to one 9-handed table saved me. There were 35 starting stacks on the table. I managed to pull one pot and get up near a starting stack. An orbit later, I found 88 and it was raised before me. I probably should've folded, but I called (meant to push for 600 more, but it would've been stringy). @Azcat called behind me and spiked an Ace on the flop that held for the win. (He ended up taking down the tournament... The first with his new chips).

I jumped in to the cash game late. They were playing HOPES 4-handed. I bought in for $60 and put it all at risk in the first hand in SOHE (chopped). I played a few hands of SOHE, then an orbit of Hold 'Em and an orbit of Omaha, them the game broke (@Marc Hedrick was busted and @mike32 was sleepy), so I cashed out for $144.

Even with the tournament donation, I still turned a small profit on the night. Not a bad evening for the inaugural card capper.

Who wants it next?
