The Beakertwang Family Band! (1 Viewer)

My bass arrived today, and I've got about an hour on it.

I'm pretty much 100% in agreement with @Beakertwang. Adapting to the short scale was easy, but I'm still getting used to the thick, squishy strings. The sound is surprisingly good for a $150 bass with a bridge pickup only, but I'm going to have to EQ it to get consistent volume top to bottom. Intonation is perfect all the way down, and this is one of my biggest complaints about most other inexpensive basses.

Most importantly, it's perfectly sized for travel, and it is a ton of fun to play. That's why I bought it, and so far I'm really happy.

I ordered a rosewood thumb rest off Amazon. Not quite sure where I’ll put it yet.

We've had some really productive (and fun!) rehearsals lately. Songs are coming together nicely.

Added a few songs to the repertoire:
  • "The Break Song (They Don't Write 'Em)", The Greg Kihn Band
  • "Good", Better Than Ezra
  • "You Are My Sunshine" (my dad always sang this to us
  • and possibly "Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard", Paul Simon

I dropped it down a few steps so I could reach that high note. :D

Not sure on "Free Fallin'" yet, but it crossed my mind.
Personally, I'd go Tom Petty with Last Dance with MaryJane. One of the few songs I've ever attempted when doing karaoke. But you really can't go wrong with any Tom Petty song.
