Some of you may remember this thread from last year:

My sister has invited us back for my brother-in-law's 50th birthday party. We've been back at it with rehearsals, brushing up on last year's tunes, and adding a few new ones. Additionally, by BIL likes to play guitar and sing a little. I convinced him to join us for a couple songs of his choosing. It will be his first time performing in front of a crowd of any size.

Previous setlist:
  • "Surrender", Cheap Trick
  • "Take On Me", A-Ha
  • "Hey-Ya", Outkast
  • "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", Tears For Fears
  • "Crazy Train", Ozzy
  • "How Sweet It is", James Taylor
  • "500 Miles", The Proclaimers
  • "Me and Julio", Simon and Garfunkel
  • "Good", Better Than Ezra
  • Mashup: "Straight Up", Paula Abdul, and "Bye Bye Bye". NSYNC
  • "The Breakup Song", Greg Kihn Band
  • "Walk of Life", Dire Straits
  • "We're Not Gonna Take It", Twisted Sister
  • "Love Somebody Like You", Keith Urban
New Additions:
  • "Happy Birthday", Weird Al Yankovic
  • "What I Got", Sublime
  • "Down Under", Met At Work
  • Mashup: "Brain Stew", Green Day, and "25 or 6 to 4", Chicago
  • "Fight For Your Right to Party", Beastie Boys, in the style of Johnny Cash
  • "A Pirate Looks at [50]", Jimmy Buffet (BIL's choice)
  • "The Authority Song", John Cougar (BIL's choice)
Possibilities, if we can work them up in time:
  • "One Thing Leads to Another", the Fixx
  • "Careless Whisper", George Michael
  • "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You", Heart. My BIL and I had a terrific, hilarious convo about how ridiculous this song is, and how it the story needs to be made into a feature film. I just may do it solo as a joke. :p

I'll try to get some video to share, this year.

Quite an eclectic mix of tunes

Something tells me you would have a helluva good time on the 80's cruise.

Following.

Your Paula Abdul/*NSYNC mashup reminds me of when my cousin use to perform a mashup of Ice Ice Baby and Fresh Prince of Bel Air. It was fantastic.

Heart’s answer to Chevy Van?

25 or 6 to 4, combined with Brain Stew? Who thought of that?
Me, I suppose. My son suggested “Brain Stew”, and the chord progression is the same in both songs. Just a slight change of the rhythm, and it’s done. We’re doing one verse of “25 or 6 to 4” in the middle, and going right back into Green Day. I play the horn part on my kazoo. The fans will go wild! :p

Good lord, “Chevy Van” is terrible! I wasn’t familiar with that one.

I keep threatening to write two companion songs to “All I Wanna Do”—a typical hair-band rocker from the perspective of the young dude, and a pathetic soft rock ballad from the perspective of her sterile cuck of a husband.

From way back in the crowd....

@Beakertwang Have you had the concert yet??? I thought we'd see footage from a 4th of July concert or some such!
Yeah, the birthday party was about a month ago. We had a great show. I'll try to get a decent video to show, but since I didn't take any video, that may be difficult.
