Full House
Inspired by a recent thread from @AK Chip, this is a look back at my first 6 months as a PCF member and newly admitted chip-a-holic. I'm not sure I know what I'm doing, but I'm having a hell of a good time doing it, amassing over 1,400 Paulsons that make up my current mixed cash set (stay tuned for the pr0n to follow!) and getting to know a lot of the community who have helped me along the way.
It first started with the inspiration. I spent the first months going through all 26+ pages of pr0n. It was a lot of fun seeing the sets that the community had. I found the following to be the sets I constantly kept going back to time and time again. You'll notice a lot of similarities between these and my current set.
(If any PCF members would like me to remove their photos, please let me know and I will do so.)

Stage 1: Here was the first phase of my mixed cash set, the frustration already setting in. I was going to settle for the starbursts as quarters because I didn't think I'd be able to find spotted inlay fracs. I was also having a heck of a time trying to find the PCA Secondary $25's, which to this day, still remain my favorite chip. But I liked what I had and made an early realization that I wasn't going to be happy with chips that weren't in near mint to mint condition.
Stage 2: I sort of lost control. I wasn't sure what I was doing. I was just buying chips that hit the classifieds that I liked with no real plan. Was I going to build 1 set? Was I going to build 2 sets? No idea. And this is what I ended up with. Two different quarters (yup, the spotted inlay kind), two different $25's (yup, found some more of the PCA $25's I love), and sold off 1 rack of the Silver Palace $5's to recoup some funds (bad choice).
Stage 3: I tried to gain some control and started to make some tough decisions. I gained a 2nd rack of the Blue Chip quarters which allowed me to let go of the Motor City fracs. And because the PCA $1's were in the mix, I had to remove the PCA $25's (but I didn't sell them as they'll reappear shortly).
Stage 4: Some big changes here. I obtained 3 mint racks of the Casablanca $5's and sold off the Silver Palace $5's to recoup some more funds (another tough decision). I didn't love the inlay of the Silver Palace and the Casa's had that nice yellow spot. I also obtained 2 racks of Terrible's $1's, which allowed me to remove the PCA $1's and bring back my favorite chip in the PCA $25. Short of filling that last missing barrel, I was going to stop here because I really loved this combination and thought this was a perfect breakdown, but I didn't. And to this day, I'm still having seller's remorse letting the Terrible's go.
Stage 5: This is where I currently am today. Went crazy again. Amassed 800 PCA Secondary $1's in mint condition because I really wanted to be able to support a limit game. I still love to play limit and this will allow me to start each of 8 players with a full rack. You'll also noticed that I found the 5th and final barrel of PCA $25's (very excited about that) and picked up a barrel of the amazing Aztar MO Secondary $100's (another on the way!!). Really starting to like how this is shaping up. I know there are some flaws like having PCA represent 2 denominations. But I love it. All chips are near mint to mint, the colors go fantastic with each other, and the breakdown can support all of my games and stakes. You can really see the influences that those sets from the other PCF members had on this.
Enjoy!
And here is just the limit portion of the larger set. All PCA, all mint. This set allows me to start 8 players with a full rack of $1's each (base chip), using the $25 (value chip) for rebuys. Our limit game right now is a simple but fun $2/$4 limit game with a $100 buy in (25 big bets).
Thanks for following my journey and thank you to all who have helped me along the way. The list of members who have helped me is getting too long to name for fear that I'll leave someone off.
The journey does not end here. I plan to add more of every denomination as well as introduce a pink rack of $0.50's so I'll provide more updates along the way. Oh, then there is set #2 and set #3.
UPDATE 7/18 - The pink fracs have arrived. I had almost every standard color represented except pink and gray, so adding this really rounds out the set and adds that extra touch.
UPDATE 8/1 - I think I've solved my one nagging problem and landed on what could very likely be my final combination/variation of this mixed cash set. The pink Mark Twain fracs experienced a very short stay and have been moved out. Furthermore, my beloved PCA Secondary $25's have been replaced with the Mark Twain $25's, which now eliminates the main issue of having PCA represented by two denominations. Quite honestly, I think the Mark Twain $25's go better with the Casa $5's and Aztar $100's than the PCA $25's did. The $5 / $25 / $100 combo is AWESOME!
UPDATE 8/28 - The Terrible's have returned home!
After much thought, I've come to the realization that the mix of RHC and THC molds doesn't bother me a bit. But what did bother me was that two denominations were represented by PCA ($1's & $25's). To solve for that, I was able to bring the Terrible's St. Jo $1's back for the 2nd time with some help from @slisk250.
(The PCA $1's are being moved to a limit set.)
At this point, the only combination that I haven't tried with the chips that have passed through my hands is combining either the Mark Twain $25's or Aztar MO $25's with these Terrible's. I'm on the search for one of these two racks of $25's for my limit set anyways, so we'll see what looks best.
UPDATE 9/21 - I finally had a chance to take some pics of what I believe to be the final version of this set. I'm extremely pleased with how it turned out. I love each individual denomination and this represents my ideal breakdown for a $0.25/$0.50 NL cash game. The journey has been fun and I'm ready to move onto the next project. TRK is calling...
(Again, many many thanks to all of the PCF members that made this happen. All of these chips came from within the community, no eBay).
