Welcome Joe...thanks for the awesome deal on the Yaks. I might pick up a small 300 chip cash set just to have a set of Chipcos. :)

I suspect more of my $$$ will go to PGI to pad out my tourney set.

Joe: any plans for a non-denom version?

Thanks,
Dave

Thanks for looking into that, Joe. In checking my sets, my budget is already way overdrawn for chips (cash set was an impulse buy...ooops). Gotta think this one over...the pull of the yellow chips is strong.

That said, if anyone is looking for ceramics, these are wonderful chips.

Hey Joe,

I ordered a sample set from you and they are an amazing chip. I'm ready to pull the trigger but my holdup is I need a .05 cent chip being this would be a cash game set. I was wondering if I could have a custom denomination of .05 made and if it would just be the standard .39/chip or more?

What color would you want to use for the .05 cent chip?

Are you going to use any $5 chips? I only ask be the Fan of Cards series used red for the .05 cent.

OK, the orange would work then. What breakdown are you going for?

By the urging of several of my friends and my gf they've persuaded me to have the .05 be yellow. I know yellow is the .50 but I won't be using that denomination so would a yellow .05 be ok?

For a breakdown I'm not honestly 100% sure so I'm open to suggestions. We usually have 6 to 8 people for the cash games and we all buy in for 10 to 20 dollars with a couple people buying in again if they get out. Our blinds stay at .05/.10 for 95% of our cash games.

Assuming we have 8 players and they all buy in for 20 dollars how does the following chip breakdown per player look?
.05 x 15= .75
.25 x 9= 2.00
1.00 x 7= 7.00
5.00 x 2= 10.00
Total: 20.00

Assuming we had 8 players with that setup I'd need:
.05: 200
.25: 100
1.00: 100
5.00: 20
total: 420 chips

Joe makes our Key West ceramic dealer buttons, and all the stuff at PGI is top notch.

The Royal Yak chips are a great deal.

I would use something like this
.05-15 = 75
.25-13= 3.25$
1$-11 =11$
5$-1= 5$

Breakdown
.05-140
.25-140
1$-120
5$-100
500 total
In .05/.10 your workhorse will be the 1$ I wouldn't set half the buyin in the highest $ chip and with this there is enough to run 10 players and still have lots of 5$ for rebuy or a short handed .25/.50 well or 10 player cash plays for rebuy

Just my .02$

You're over thinking this and making "starting stacks" way too complicated.

First piece of advice:you only need 3 denominations to make a good cash game set.

Secondly, full racks work best. It makes giving chips out and cashing them in much easier.

Thirdly, if you're not playing limit games/games with antes you only need 100 blind chips per full table(10 players). The 0.25 is your workhorse chip so I would get at least 200 of those but personally I prefer 300 workhorse chips. This allows for larger stacks at the table. Know anyone who doesn't like to play with a large stack? Me either.

Next, you'll need at least one rack of $1 chips, maybe 2 depending on how large your game plays. You probably won't need any $5 chips at all but if you're like me to then you want a barrell or two. Just because. If your buy ins are $20 at most with only a few rebuys then they aren't necessary.

To sum up, this is what I would go with

0.05-100
0.25-200
1.00-200

If you'd like you can replace a barrel or two of ones with some fives.

This gives you a bank of $255 which is enough for 25 buy ins between 8 players. Sounds like it should be plenty.

Next, starting everyone with the exact same chips is totally unnecessary. You're not playing a tournament.

Say for example the first player buys in for $10. Give him all the nickels($5) and a barrel of quarters(also $5). Give the next player their buy in in quarters. So for example if the next player buys in for $20, give them 4 barrels(80)of quarters. Do this all the way around the table. If you run out of quarters then move on to the ones. Do the same thing for rebuys. People can make change with each other at the table. It's way faster than counting out 10 of this denom, 8 of this one, etc. etc.

Hope this helped and GL

Edit:Tommy can we move this conversation to it's proper forum? Chip breakdowns are meant to be in a sponsors forum.

I appreciate all the advice everyone.

Bubble: Yeah that makes sense to not have half the chip stack be 5's as those would hardly come into play anyways. I'd rather have a larger chip stack by using more small denomination chips but of course at the same time my wallet would probably like to purchase less chips then more ;). Trying to cut down how many chips I had to order was really the only reason I was going to have people start off with so many 5's.

Rich Mahogany: What I will probably do is buy the amounts you said but cut out 20 of the 1's and replace them with a barrel of 5's (a barrel is 20 right? Sorry if that is a dumb question).

Tommy: Do I need to email Joe to place my order or how do I do it to get this forums pricing deal? Also can I get confirmation that it is ok to get the nickels in yellow?

Thanks for all the help everyone! You all have been very helpful and friendly to an up and coming chip addict :)

I can vouch for that. I have got a couple of them.

A yellow nickel? Uh oh...I think my wallet just whimpered.
LOL!

Yeah the more I think about it the more I want a yellow nickel :)
LOL "in his face'

Reviewed the bankroll, and if I want to pursue a clay set, the Yak cash set will have to go, or at least not expand any further. So, no yellow Yaks for me.

And I thought buying parts for the motorcycle was bad...this addiction is much harder on the wallet. Oh well...

I had a line on BCC GCR's, but let it go, mostly because it wasn't quite what I wanted in breakdown and colour. I also had a Yak sample at the time, and couldn't do both sets. And I really liked the Yaks. Knowing what I was getting and having the option to add on later was important, and is what pushed me to get them.

So, I'm looking for a solid tourney set (no currency symbol) with a large denom (Milano like). If another run of Paulson GCR's is ever done, I'll jump on it. Another option would be PGI's solid clay chips...I may have to order a sample.

What is the min qty for a custom denom? I'm think of doing a set of Yaks like the old Paulson Fan of Cards set.

If you need to meet a minimum for a custom chip denom, let me know and I will get a small set for sure then.
