I've seen enough $100 chips on this site that really speak to me, and gotta ask...

Outside of tourney structures, or those of you playing bigger $, how are you all using them? Especially when seeing there are multiple barrels or even a rack or two of them in some sets.

I'm assuming most "normal" games like my own, these don't get much time (if any) at the table. Maybe I'm very wrong.

I want to engage in these chip sales when I see some available, but I need to know how I can use them first.

Give me an idea or two...

I think you're like me; I've literally used one of them exactly once.

But I think that plenty of people here play in games which are much higher stakes.

My experience is that you are not wrong. I think it is pretty typical that home games play smaller than live in a Casino & relatively speaking outside of glitzy places like high end Vegas Casinos you don't even get the hundos in play much at all.

Label over them to make it a one dollar chip.

I'm curious; does the black color of a typical hundo cause other chips, especially bright ones like fracs, to have dark color transfer?

That's what I would be worried about with relabelled hundreds in quantity next to my bright pink 25c.

Good question. I’m currently ordering an add-on to my existing cash set, and also adding a $100 denom to the mix. I play in two games regularly:
The game I host - $1/$1, $100 buy-in. 7-9 players typically, total bank in the $1200-$1400 range. We get a handful of $20 chips in play, never need a $100.
A second game I am a player in (but i loan my chips to) - $1/&2, $200 buy-in. Almost always 10 players, including 1-2 really loose, aggressive players. Totally different game, bank gets to $4000-$4500. We typically get about a barrel of $100’s in play. I am currently using $100’s from a tourney set I have. (Note - I don’t love this game, not really my idea of fun, big swings throughout the game, etc), but can be profitable if you can be patient

So, I am going to order 60 blacks in my CPC order, not so much because I need that many, but since there are minimums required and because the CPC process is so long that I may as well get them while I can.
Also though, because I envision these chips going to one of kids one day and the value of $100 years from now won’t be what it is today so maybe they will get more play........

Might have been more info than you asked for, but I was just finalizing numbers for each denom in my add-on order this morning and your question was exactly what I had been thinking about.

Personally I am a huge fan of your top rack of (80) $20s or $25s and (20) $100s for that rare occasion. Always nice back of the brain security to know get if this thing breaks open and people go crazy that I have an extra 2k of bank just in case. But we play $.25/$.50 or $.50/$1 and never been close to getting hundos in play yet! Typically (200) $5s and maybe a barrel or 2 of the $20s

pretty much where I'm at too...

We usually play .25/.25-1/2 at home but may play slightly higher at the local casinos. We don’t “need” 100s but we have gotten a couple into play. I think if you are building out a big impressive set of chips you just never want even a whiff of being caught in the position of saying “oh no” I ran out of chips. But there are some people here who definitely need 100s in their sets playing 5/10 or 10/20. Even playing 1/2 I would prefer having 100s instead of relying just on lots of 25s.

Like others have said, I like to have a barrel of hundos for each of my cash sets... They’re usually one of the best chips in the set, they’re nice to have to round out the set, it gives you a lot of padding in the bank just in case, and more chips is never a bad thing...

The main reason I have hundos is because they look cool... I just use the future proofing excuse to rationalize including them!

I get it, I'm just looking to prioritize use/table time over padding/bank.

Appreciate the comments this morning.

Agreed 100%
For 1/2nl you will never really NEED $100's but they might come out every once in a while. If you play bigger you will certainly want some & if you play bigger I'd want a rack.

Yep, and like @Ben8257 said, I like finishing off my sets with a 80x$20/25 + 20x$100 rack.

Just play bigger games, duh! ;)

another way get bigger chips in play in general is to multiply the buy x4 and divide the cash out by 4. So if you play a 25/50c cash game with a $100 max, cut out the frac and give $400 worth of chips and play $1/2 blinds. You will be able to get plenty of $100’s on the table.

I loved my design and had to make it. :)

I don’t need to use them, but I use 100s to help big winners organize their piles and re-distribute those chips for re-buys. So I only got a barrel.

With my $1/$2 games I go through 3/4 racks of $5’s and one rack of $20/$25’s and then start finally using $100s. Rare occasions I don’t use any $100’s
Usually end up with a barrel in use but occasionally use 2+

Even simpler to multiply x10 and let denominations represent dimes.
Perfect for 1/3 or 2/5 dime games or even higher, up to 5/10 dimes, after which it becomes stupid:)

Ha yeah... I'd like to at times, but those that make the game worth having dictate the action.
This is so funny, but true. If you ever play in a big mixed game live you see this all the time. The fish get to play the game of their choice...
