Synthwave inspired solids set (1 Viewer)

Totally there with you on the imperial blue:

Very underrated but I think it begs to have spots. I think it's an amazing base color but would struggle to stand on its own next to the other dayglo colors(this may be due to my color sample being a-mold finish which I've always felt kinda dulls chips colors).

Speaking of molds, I'm of a few minds. I'm actually thinking DiaSQR or Hourglass. I've liked both molds but I know that split spots can be an issue... well... no spots! Also thinking about H-Mold, but I couldn't articulate why.

Absolutely agreed. I was thinking bright colors on the inlay might supplement bright spots. But that would depend on the inlay.

I think that to push the synth wave vibe you want something geometric. CSQ, H Mold, Hourglass or DSQ could work too.

I’ve got my mold set and I’m taking the feel out for a test drive on them.

Agreed on the geometric front that they. An really add something to the synth wave vibe.

May even try to lean into a larger inlay

What you have to watch out for here is the DG pink vs this color for dirty stacks, especially with a solids set. I need to look at my sample set again but IIRC there was conflict between DG Pink and either Tiger or Peach for dirty stacks. DG Arc would provide the most contrast, but personally I prefer Peach as a stand alone color.

@JeepologyOffroad I remember us talking about this a while ago.

Dg pink and tiger no go unless spots are greatly contrasting. I still probably wouldn’t do it though. With solids I think you gotta go with arc here.

Peach would probably be fine with DG pink, but imo arc is the smart bet

As I was stacking them up post picture to set them aside on my desk I even said to myself, 'man, in a stack that pink really could get confused with Tiger super easily'. I'm super glad you all called that out.

Arc Yellow I think actually 'works' the least of them on theme, though isn't bad, but easily is the best from a stack/contrast perspective.

Took this pic with lots of natural light coming in the room and even then DG Pink and DG Tiger can easily get lost in each other. In typical lighting you would be hard pressed to tell these apart if these were solids:

Arc yellow is the winner in the line up. Now to see if I can get the art done in time.

The set:
Dayglo Pink - $0.25
Dayglo Peacock - $1.00
Dayglo Arc Yellow - $5.00
Plurple - $20
Bright "Cocaine" White - $100

Trying to push the 'art' up the inlay, room beneath it for the same of the casino and a denominator.

Working with an artist who does synthwave stuff but has never done anything like art for poker chip inlays so hopefully it isn't a total dumpster fire.

Hourglass runs SUPER soon so hopefully i can pull it all together in time.

Proofs came back, and the artist did what I asked but unfortunately, what I had conceptually I don't think will actually work as an inlay. Given the short timeline here and that while I'm excited about the concept I'm not wedded to it I'm gonna put it down and let it marinate. If it's two years before the mold gets run again, that's okay, it'll give me time to marinate and make sure I get exactly what I'm looking for.

I’ve been on a real synthwave kick lately, totally passed the vibe check!
And I just remember this set! Love this idea! I hope it’s still a thing!

I support this set design and hope to see them come to fruition before too long!

nd while perhaps not strictly synthwave (or are, idk, genre police don't @ me), I encourage you to check out Blaqk Audio, the band that inspired my custom tournament ceramics. :cool
