How do you guys manage bank storage? By that I mean, how do you store the cash while a game is taking place?

My practice for several years has been to put buy-ins in a dedicated 'poker wallet' which I keep in my pocket until the game disperses. This works okay, but I'd prefer to find an approach with more capacity so I can reasonably accommodate multiple tables. Better security would be a good thing too.

I have a friend with a vending machine business, for a while now I've fantasized about getting a vending machine from him, one of the ones that have candy, chips, and cold drinks. I think it would be so cool to have one of those in a poker room, then you could stock it with literally what ever you wanted for your poker crew and charge a very reasonable price. Then, one spot in the food section I was going to find a way for it to dispense something that could be used as a re buy or re up item. You can set whatever you want for the price and have it drop a bounty chip in a bag or something that then the player gives to you to get a chip stack, then at the end of the night open the machine to get the cash. Could do the same for a cash game. Bust out? Hit the vending machine and press C9 to get the $100 lamer and bring that to the bank in exchange for $100 in chips. :) I think it's going to be cool when I get it done, just got to find the right machine at the right price.

I keep the bank in a cash drawer with the next few buy-ins racked up on top. I am sure this would hold tens of thousands of dollars but it isn't secure. (Not that it would be trivial to get into the cash unnoticed - the bank is in clear view of everyone at the table.)

One comment I have gotten from several players is they like the idea they can see the cash going in and coming out. It gives them confidence that there is enough money so insure they will get paid out. I can't quite figure that out - we are playing in my house in a small rural community. It isn't like I could disappear with the money and they wouldn't ever see me again.

I figured most people go with a lockbox. I guess my concern with that is that someone could walk out with the entire thing and drill the lock out at their leisure.

I doubt it will ever happen, but sometimes there are friends-of-friends at my games, and occasionally the 'poker room' can be pretty barren during smoke breaks and such.

Stored in one of these.

I actually have a couple in case I ever have multiple banks going at a meetup.

I guess I'm not worried about this. We play in my basement. I'm pretty sure somebody would notice a friend of a friend walking out with it.

I put it the bank in my left pocket. My personal cash in my right. In the cases where I've had 5k+ that gets to big for a pocket I will then transfer it to a birdcage that has a lock.

^^ this, only personal cash in left pocket (as always), and bank/buy-ins in right pocket. Only once has it gotten so big that I had to offload a percentage of it to my trusted dealer's pocket for safekeeping.

I prefer a classic cigar box. No lock. It's in plain sight the whole night. Multiple pairs of eyes provide great security.

The only fear is a snatch-and-run, but we have no strangers at my game.

Also, I don't do MTT... it's nearly always a cash game, so there are constant buy-ins.

One of 3 options:

1. The dealer stores it in their tray.
2. Lockbox.
3. Top drawer of Sarge. Good luck carrying him out.

Hell, if my dog was guarding the loot. All you would have to do is open the dishwasher. He hears that and he is off to the races.

Cash game bank goes in a cigar box and tournament buy ins go in a manila envelope with a post-it note on the front to track who has bought in (redundant to tourney software). Not worried about snatch and grab as all my players are in the neighborhood.

This worked in the DC area for twenty years:

1. Cargo pants, big pockets.
2. Game room at top of single flight of stairs.
3. At least two LEOs in the game every week (ankle holsters preferred).

I am not going to say something snarky like "Trihonda puts it under his card protector."

Nope, I won't do it.

The cash wouldn't be safe then... everyone would always be reaching for it... right?

As to the St. Bernard cash safe, would the cash smell like brandy afterwards?
