Generally 200-300 x the size of the initial big blind. I do 200 personally.

It depends.

Tournament starting stack sizes can range from 50 starting big blinds to 300 big blinds or larger. Driving factors are a) the denominations of chip set being used, b) the breakdown of the chip set, c) the starting blind levels, and d) the intentions of the event organizer.

Beware that the number of chips at start by itself doesn't mean much without structure and time levels

For highest chip efficiency from a purchase point of view, you can usually get away with just under 30 chips per player in a typical 200BB structure. For highest play efficiency, sometimes people prefer 40+ chips in a starting stack for less change making or esthetic purposes.

How many chips does everyone typically start their tournys with?

It depends:

T10k: 20/20/15/0 = 55 chips (T2000 and later T10000 are used for color-ups)

T20k: 20/20/5/15 = 60 chips (T5000 and later T25000 are used for color-ups)

TYk: 20/20/5/15/X, where Y = 5000X+20000, 60+X chips

25 players get these stacks, any more and the 26+ players only get high denoms and need to make change with a neighbor.
