Stardust Single Chip Limit Set (1 Viewer)

With Vegas line imo

Vegas line. don't care for the color matched one. the other two are toss ups. are you gonna do them random or "aligned" If aligned then I think I like the "Las Vegas" centered in between the two spot on the bottom (bottom row far left)

I like it with the Vegas line and 1.5 is a great shade. Will be a great set!

I am going with the Vegas line. Also decided to go with the "1.5" color, the one on the bottom left.

As for alignment, I was just talking to someone about that. Not sure yet if I want to make them randomly aligned (more like you typically see in a casino) or align them (which is more inline with my OCD). If I did align them, I think I would keep the two spots on the bottom with "Vegas" centered between them. But the good thing about labels is I don't have to decide that now :)

Several people have expressed interest in getting sample sets of these chips, which I am more than happy to do. I am in the process of trying acquire more chips to "complete" the set, and would be glad to try and get some extras so that I could offer samples to those who are interested.

So anyone who might be interested, please let me know if you'd like a sample set (obviously this is not binding, just want a ballpark idea). I was thinking a sample set could either be something like a 3-chip set (the regular and the two limited edition chips) or perhaps a 10+ chip sample set for those who might want enough to shuffle (especially considering the shipping cost would be about the same for either, and the chips themselves are going to be relatively cheap at my cost of about $1.25/each with labels). Again, right now I'm just looking to gauge interest so I know how many extra chips I should go after.

You already know I'm all over as big of a sample set as you want to part with :)

@bentax are you milling these? Or will the label apply over the top of the inlay?

The plan is to label over the existing inlay (same as I am doing on the Pier Five project).

Based on previous SDM relabel projects by other PCF members, specifically relabeling other tournament chips into quarters, it should work fine and the end result should look really nice.

I would enjoy a 3 chip sample, only if you have extras to spare.

I would like 1300 samples....

So good news, I believe I will be able to get an extra rack of the chips so that I can offer samples to those who want them (though probably not 1300 of them ;))

Hopefully I'll get my sample labels pretty soon and I'll post pictures for a little more feedback before finalizing the design. Once that's done, I'll start a new thread and make a list of those interested in samples.

Ok, so a little update. I got the first draft sample from @Gear yesterday. The standard label (the colorful night sign on black background) turned out ok. There was plenty of detail, but it looked a little flat overall; It didn't have quite the same impact as the mockup did on a backlit computer screen. I can probably tweak the levels and colors a bit to make it pop more.

However, the B&W vintage photos came out great! I was really impressed with those labels, and even more excited about how they look on the chip (the grays and pinks work really well together). It got me thinking that perhaps I would consider doing a whole set of those. I thought about sets like my old Bahamias, where the $5 chips had about half a dozen variations but could easily be used together as a cohesive set. So with that in mind, I came up with 4 more chips (for a total of 6) that I thought might work well together. The plan (if I go this route) would be to have several racks of each chip in the set.

Any thoughts or opinions on this alternative plan?

If possible I'd love one of each of the special edition chips and 3 regular ones for my display.

Looks FAWESOME! Love the retro pics.

Never been a fan of photos on chips, regardless of content or subject matter. But if you like 'em.....

The photos look cool and I would definitely do then for a few special editions. Maybe 3 or 5 per rack. But I really loved the original black design. If it were me I would work toward getting that design to print optimally.

But I'm also a big believer in making custom (and semi-custom) chips to there liking of the owner even if literally no one else likes them. So if you dig them absolutely go with the photos for the whole set.

I think I like it better if there are only a few of these chips in the mix as Jack mentioned. The upper right photo does nothing for me...diggin' the chicks on the rocket. Either way this is a great use for a chip without a home.

I agree, the top right photo is a little boring. I only added that one (last) because there was an empty spot once I added the chick on rockets one (which was a picture from the Stardust's grand opening).

I based it off the picture below, and had to add some extra sky and road above and below the picture in order to crop it properly for the chip. I think in the end that one came out pretty good and would make a nice addition to the set. Who wouldn't like a chip with a picture form 1958 with three scantily clad women (at least for the times) straddling a rocket to celebrate the grand opening of a new casino :D

I plan to tweak the original chip and see if I can get it to a point where I feel it would work. However, as it stands now and looking at the chips in person in front of me, I just know I wouldn't be happy with 1500+ of the current black stardust sign chip, where as I love the other ones. So we'll see, at this point I'm just keeping my options open.

The good thing is, unlike true customs, even if I did the whole set one way and then changed my mind, it's not the end of the world to change my mind and go a different direction. At a "change fee" of $20/rack, it's a lot less expensive to change your mind with relabels than with CPC customs ;)

Here are a few quick "splash pot" shots with the chips. I only had @Gear print out about a dozen of each to test out, so there's more like mini-splashed pots

Also, keep in mind that the labels were cut a little too small for the recess diameter. This will be corrected on the next batch so that there's no visible black from the original inlay showing through on the edges. Having the diameter as close to perfect as possible really makes the difference between having a chip that looks like it just has a label stuck on top vs a chip where you can't even tell it's a relabel. So just keep that in mind as the labels were more meant to test out the print quality of the designs and weren't really meant to be final products. I was actually hesitant to even post these pictures because they really don't reflect what the final product will look like once the cut size is tweaked.

Fwiw, I like the second splash the best. Just a few special chips. If the Stardust text on the black label could be made brighter, it would be golden.

This set is going to look great with the small tweaks. I definitely agree with the label size and color pop issues. I like the special edition chips even more than before!

Does this mean you are selling your Grand Vics?

Already sold 'em all, never cared for the photo inlays and rhc mold. Only have 40x $500 secondaries left, and they aren't keepers.

Man thats a tough choice for me. I really like this project and like both the vintage shots and the black stardust labels equally I think. I am of no use to your decision because I would probably go with a vintage shot on one side and the stardust black label on the other side of EVERY chip.
