Speeding up the home game (3 Viewers)

I’ve done this lately as well. Too tilting to watch my players botch the deals again and again.

Definitely. Way back when we used to pass the deal one of my friends would literally be almost panicked when it was his turn to shuffle & deal. He had no clue  :ROFLMAO:

When you choose to play with 2 decks. Is it necessary that they are the same? For example a blue and red deck. Or do you guys don’t bother and use two different designs and brand?

Seems like you've got a pretty good structure in place to maximize hands per minute. Only one thing could help any further at this point.

2 decks, Sb shuffles, dealer deals, repeat after each hand.
For many players, stacking and having lots of chips is half the fun. Having the focus purely on quantity of hands played seems a little on the less fun side for me.

Why not BB shuffle? Too hard to pass it through a person?

Nah. I know the time is money but in case of cash game I belive in letting player to tank as long as he wants. I play for fun and good company and rarely take more than 2 minutes to call but some people like to think about all angles and I see no reason not to let them.

I'm the full time dedicated dealer at my games. I've found that speeds up the game a lot. I hosted one game where I had a dealer, who was not playing, and part of me liked not having the responsibility, just being able to focus on playing. But part of me kinda missed it too.

I've never used multiple decks, takes less than 30 seconds to shuffle so I've never bothered with it.
Using a second deck is the biggest change I’ll make, whenever I start hosting again (and frankly I should have done it long ago.)
Even if it’s only 25 seconds, you’re talking about something like 8 minutes per hour. That’s 3-4 hands per hour, which is probably something like a 20% increase.

Hey I agree with you there - sock, shoe, sock, shoe...sorry, that's just wrong. That's like the toilet paper thing. It should come over the top, not from BEHIND the roll you (for you cave people out there, LOL).

Yeah, good question...the BB logic is they are the last to act, and only one likely to take no action (they can check), so the most time to shuffle. Does that trump the passing around?

+100 on the dedicated dealer. If you are getting ~$5k on the table, so worth it.

We often bring in a dealer to work solely on tips, which gentle reminders several times that players are expected to tip on winning hands (ie. every hand that is played). For our games this ends up coming out to ~$40/hour for the dealer, which they seem happy with, given there is no base pay. It works great all around for those games where "hands are the focus." For "friendlier" or more low stakes games where players don't care as much, two decks + dedicated shuffle person(s) works out fine.

OMG anyone who does sock shoe sock shoe probably thinks hot dogs are sandwiches and fewer chips on the table is better.
We need to work as a society to do things the right way to maintain order and dignity. Shuffle is behind, person who just dealt cuts and passes, gathers the deal and shuffles.
Hot dogs are hot dogs. Not sammiches.
Sock sock shoe shoe. Archie Bunker is correct on all points.
More chips= more fun. Always.

Different colors, same manufacturer, index and size. Each table has a different manufacturer, or at least different colors to prevent a card from magically making it off one table and onto another (especially once a table has been broken down for the night). However, if a card gets damaged I use a completely different manufacturers deck to replace the damaged deck.

On issues of speed, we use 2 decks, shuffle behind. Once players get eliminated (tournament) is is not unusual for someone to sit in and deal for the table or even shuffle for the table.

Speed isn't our primary concern, fun is. Lots of chips lots of drinking, and lots of fun, but we will fold your hand if you are not at the table, and will pleasantly nudge a storyteller to hurry up and deal. Stalling won't be tolerated, but I think we have had just one clock called in 11 years.

I once texted a guy that it was his turn, he was telling a story, and by the time he got the text he still hadn't made the action. It was 10 minutes, no joke.

The reason it went that long is the rest of us (not listening to the story) went and had a break and made drinks and had food, came down and told him to look at his phone. Then he checked. ;)

One deck. There is no clock in a cash game. Relax.

You put two decks into a 6 max dealer's choice game, you are spending 1/3 of your time either shuffling or dealing. IMHO it's about having fun, not racing though how many hands you can get per hour. It's not a casino.

Just had a random thought to share:

Another reason I like being the dedicated dealer is I keep a stack of the STFU chips, and I really enjoy chucking them at people when the actions on them

How do you put on a pullover shirt? Head first then arms, or arms then head? Or alternating?

Do these have any "game impact" aside from reminding players the action is on them?

Well, I usually try to knock over at least one of their stacks when I fling it, other than that no. No game impact..................yet

If it's a 2nd offense, maybe a 1-round penalty? Getting to serious for a home game though. :D

Use MSK plaques for this. The first one knocks over some chip stacks. The second time aim for their forehead :)

I'm really glad you said that. I'd been pondering whether to do two decks shuffle behind etc when my small dealer's choice game starts up post-apocalypse post-pandemic, and you just made my decision an easy one.
