Guys I have been looking at the Dunes from Apache poker and just ran across the Showdown Club and Poker Knights for like .20 a chip. That’s ridiculously cheap. Are these any good or should I get the fines and why? Who makes these and where can I research.

Ps I’m starting my journey toward Paulsons and I’m gonna take my time. For now I need cash canes happening. Pls help. Anyone have photos of any of these sets? How do they feel. I have a tourney set of Pharaoh’s cc so I know how they feel. Advice and photos would be awesome. Thx in advance.

It does behoove one to sample chips before one buys. How they look and feel to you might not be how they feel (nor as important) to someone else.

There's usually very good reasons why something is ridiculously cheap compared to something similar that is not as cheap.

Dunes are nicer for two reasons. They have less flashing of the plastic material so they feel a little nicer, and their colors/edge spots are nicer looking. Showdown colors are drab and boring.

a lot of great poker chip reviews can be viewed here, including the Dunes:

My first set were the Showdowns. I was immediately disappointed. The colors were drab, they were hard and slippery, and the edges were rough. The Apache china clays are much nicer. IMO, the 43mm Royals from Apache are hands down the best among the CC's.

IMO, the nicest of the inexpensive slugged plastics are the Outlaws, Monaco Casino, and Lucky Horseshoe chips from discountpokershop.com. They are a softer feeling, less slippery plastic, and stack and handle much better than the Showdowns. Of course, it's always best to get samples.

Check out the smooth Monte Carlos from The Poker Store. They’re your basic slugged plastic chips but without the sharp edges. Wide variety in denominations too!

I really like dunes overall. If/when I do a custom cpc set I will be basing it largely on dunes. The old school but not too old or outdated look, combined with the white background inlays looks very good to me. Looks like the type of chips you would play with in a private game at a high end country club. Think mahogany, cuban cigars and the finest scotch and bourbon.
