Should i try pot limit holdem? (2 Viewers)

I always liked how the PokerStars tv show “The Big Game” from quite a while back was pot limit preflop and no limit post flop, and I’ve always been sort of surprised that it didn’t catch on.
I can see why this would be good for TV, where a bunch of droolers don't want to watch a nit-fest NLHE game where "correct" is mostly fold, and also don't want to watch a more interesting game...like Omaha or any other fucking game they won't take the time to learn... The good news for TV poker though, is it seems that if you introduce cameras to the mix, even good pros loosen up enough to make interesting TV. PLHE doesn't seem to be necessary even to induce action.

but in reality, if you really want to mix it up....REALLY mix it up. Play a different game.

Pot Limit Preflop, No Limit Postflop is a betting structure just waiting to take off. It stops degenerate gamblers from inflating the stakes by opening for 10x every hand, and makes it more likely that you get to play four streets of poker.

Not every group has that issue, of course, and not every group sees it as an issue even if they do. YMMV
I think if you had a home game with marginal players, pot limit Holdem would just encourage lots of really bad play.
One guy will raise pot and everybody will call, just because it’s cheap enough.

I’ve played cash games at the same stakes where the standard preflop open is 4x and where it’s 12x. Different crowds. I wouldn’t want to try to “control” the 12x crowd by forcing them to play pot limit. They’d hate it. Then you’d start hearing a lot of pot pot pot and the game would probably end up playing even bigger

Been curious about pot limit holdem lately but never have played it myself.
Curious to hear from whoever runs or plays limit holdem and why you may prefer it and maybe why i should try it at my next game

The only pot limit game I run is for Omaha tourney.

There is a reason that you never see pot limit holdem in card rooms and Casinos. There is no need to play Pot Limit Holdem. Just play Limit Hold em if you want more action and don't want to kill off your player pool too fast. If your goal is to empty the pockets of the lesser players as fast as possible and crush your opponents into never returning to your game then just go ahead and play nlhe.

Crazy Eddie explains it pretty well:

The real question is "why are games like Omaha not no-limit?" - And the answer is that in Omaha and other circus games, equities run so close even on later streets that the correct play is almost always for whoever is ahead to bet everything and for whoever is behind to call. Playing it Pot Limit is necessary to turn it into a multi-street game of poker instead of a coin flip at the earliest possible opportunity. In a way, playing Omaha PL is like playing Hold'em (or anything else) Fixed Limit - if you're ahead, you bet as much as you can, i.e. as much as the limit allows, and if you're behind, you call because you have the odds to call because the limit was small enough to prevent the bettor from pricing you out of your draw.

Whereas in Hold'em, equities on made-hands-vs-draw scenarios are thick enough to allow for meaningful bets but thin enough that the correct bet size is usually a fraction of the pot rather than a multiple of the pot. That makes playing No Limit Hold'em a viable and interesting prospect; betting All In with a multiple of the pot is possible but it's reserved for specific situations, whereas in No Limit Omaha betting All In with a multiple of the pot would be a routine occurrence.
