With that being said, i purchased chips from Australia that shipped on Jan 4th, they were received in New York on Jan 7th, but I havent seen any update/movement on the package since that date

Anyone have an experience like this before?

I've experienced this delay/lag on every international shipment. I believe it simply takes a few days for the package to get processed through customs when it first arrives in the states. Once it gets processed through customs, you should begin to see movement again.

This has been my experience as well.... expect to see US Customs notations next on the tracking info. Might happen immediately, or could take several days once in the hands of Customs.

Of course, once released, I've also had packages sent from.NY to LA and back to NY before eventually heading down to GA. I never take anything for granted with the USPS.

Heads up - USPS rates go up tomorrow Jan 22, Priority and First Class, Express, Flat rate , stamps, will all be hit...

Ar least it's not all bad news.

First Class Mail International, Priority Mail International, and Priority Mail Express International will not see a rate increase.

Just a heads up, this is pricing for people printing labels with stamps.com only. I'm archaic and actually take boxes to the post office to mail them.

There is an increase to the prices at the post office as well.

My most common method is small flat rate box which went from $6.80 to $7.15 (shows as $6.10 to $6.45 on the link.) The increase in price is the same but the actual price shown differs from us people stuck in our old-fashioned ways ;)

What are Canadian and US members' approximate shipping costs for 2 racks of chips sent overseas? Canadapost is quoting me $100CAD for a 5 pound package via tracked air mail...

A quick glance tells me that from the US it might be $67USD with USPS? A cheaper option that I could use would be nice.

Split it into two SFRB packages? Weight limit is 4 lbs. for those. Anything more and it gets hit at the MFRB rate (20 lb limit), which is more than 2x the cost.

You can save considerably with a SFRB sent via International First Class instead of International Priority (about $13 vs $30 if the old memory banks are working properly). Nothing cheaper than USPS as far as I know.

Yeah, not sure how I could use USPS being in Canada anyways. Don't know if I should trust any forwarding services or want to make the drive across the border.

Splitting into two smaller packages is more expensive via Canadapost apparently. No flat rate...just by weight I think.

Checked a few prices on USPS.com

The prices really depends on where you are shipping it to. Looks like you are getting the rate to Europe, as England is $66.50 USD for an MFRB. If so, one SFRB is $33.95. So, splitting into 2x SFRB is slightly more expensive. For First Class International to England, the weight limit is 4lbs (https://pe.usps.com/text/Imm/fh_014.htm#ep3576772), and is $49.50 USD up to 4lbs. In this case, I think an MFRB is the cheapest option from USPS.

With the exchange rate from USD to CDN, the $66.50 USD is $84.04 CDN today. Is the time and cost to drive to the US and back worth the $15.96 CDN in savings (I have no idea how convenient that is for you)? If not, then Canada Post is likely the cheapest option.

Thanks.

It would be to France. The buyer apparently paid $42USD in shipping costs for his last 200 chip purchase from the US using USPS.

Generally speaking, I'd rather pay a bit more than take at least an hour out of my day going to the US. Probably shouldn't have even suggested it.

Canada Post is about a 1 minute drive :). Looks like that's what it will be.

Any suggestions on the best way to ship 1500 chips CONUS? many thanks in advance...

I use Paulson or ASM/CPC chip boxes for shipping high-end clays, but i think you will be better off using USPS large padded bubble envelopes for those RTPlastics chips, since plastics won't chip or cause wear marks during transit.

Hold a padded envelope and load up a long barrel (~65 chips) along the bottom, roll it up tightly one or two rotations, then add another long barrel, and roll it tightly up too and seal. You'll get about 130 chips in each envelope log, then put 3 logs into another padded envelope and seal.

Put your two final envelopes (~780 chips total) in a Priority Medium Flat Rate Box with lots of tightly-stuffed padding around them, to the point where nothing moves whatsoever. If you shake the box hard and hear or feel ANY movement within, it's not packed tight enough. Use styrofoam peanuts, bubble wrap, crumpled brown shipping paper or newspaper, or more wadded-up padded envelopes to totally surround your inner package.

Tape up the box with shipping tape, covering the entire box in both directions, including all corners and seams. Put clear tape over the shipping label too, to protect it from tears and water damage that could cause it to become unreadable. For very valuable chips, i double-box (a MFRB within another MFRB), and add cardboard reinforcements to the inside box corners.

USPS padded bubble envelopes are free, and work great for many shipping applications. If your local post office doesn't carry them (most don't), order 100 online (10 packs of ten each). Free shipping, too.

2 MFRB it is... Thank you all for the quick response.

Just steal all the free shit the USPS provides, take extra boxes and cut to use as layers in a box, take the free mailing envelopes and use to roll 50-100 chips and tape tightly in a roll, then pack tight.

its an art, not a science
