Building a set soon. In previous home games we always played limit hold‘em. I want to add stud games, and want proper antes instead of a button ante...

Playing $0.50/$1.00, 10c antes, 8-max. Is 100 dimes, or 10 per player, enough to avoid constant change making? Or should I shoot for 15 or 20 dimes per player?

Or do nickels instead of dimes somehow make everything easier?

I think 10x dimes per player is a good number. That effectively gives everyone 10 hands before they are out of ante chips. Someone will be accruing those ante chips each hand. That should disperse relatively evenly. Perhaps one player will need more dimes every 10 hands... I doubt it though.

I don't see how nickels can help the situation. This is also why I do a button ante in my stud games.
