Hi e1,

I'm getting headache looking at theese chips, not because I do not like them - NO on the contrary I'm already in love even though we never met each other.

But I'm having a hard time choosing colors for a Semi-custom CG-set which will include; 50¢, $1, $5, $20 (and maybe $100 plaques)

When it comes to colors I'm quite conservative, I guess. And that is a challenge in itself to choose colors on this non-traditional chip-design, where you are limited to just customized the denominations+currency sign. It will be shipped to other side of the world (Sweden) so I better choose it carefully. :p

My thoughts atm:

50¢ - blue (original 25¢)

$1 - yellow (original $1000)

$5 - red (original $5)

$20 - green (original $25)

$100 plaques - hmm, yellow or brown?

A green $20 can be very confusing to people that are used to a green $25. If you want a $20 purple or black are both good options.

Thank you for answer and picture.

Well, thats true. On the other hand could not the purple lead to dirty-stacks issues using the red $5 as well?

And maybe people misstakes a black $20...for $100?

I like...

Pink frac
Blue $1
Yellow $5
Orange $20
Black $100

I don’t love the white, red, and green chips so I tried to stay away from those 3.

Was planning to add the yellow $5 to this limit set. I evaluated and feel the yellow and orange are different enough where they can be next to each other...

If you have a $100 plaque that will not be mistaken for anything else. It is possible that a black $20 will cause confusion, but less likely.

you are more likely to have someone toss in two green chips as they say I bet $50. Then are an argument breaks out over if the bet is $40 or $50.

the black chip being $20 is such a different value than the $100 it is far less likely to have a similar problem.

And to prove my point, I have these as my $1 chips in my relabel set, nobody thought for a second they are a $100 chip.

It’s practically the same amount ($20 vs $25) so I’m not sure how confused somebody could get.
OP, I like traditional colors myself, so I think your choices are just fine. I own a small DDLM set myself, and they’re great feeling ceramics.

That's a valid concern, but if @nostan's Swedish crowd is anything like my crowd, then they're not used to any particular colors. ;)

I can't believe nobody has said this yet, but you should get samples!

And it just so happens to be that a scrub donkey north of you has a sample set of DDLM!

You should also try out @BR Pro Poker's 43mm chips.

I'll pm you!

And before I get reported soliciting sales outside the classifieds, I'm just offering to lend them. ;)

pots have more chance of being shorted by accident is the biggest problem. People are much more used to a $25 green chip from casino play.

For example: when a player announces a bet of $40 many people are used to putting in one green chip ($25 chip) and three red $5 chips. So now the pot would be $5 short with the green $20 if it is missed. Possibly more if anyone else does the same thing calling.

Just something to consider. Players will most likely get used to the green $20, unless they are playing at a local casino with green $25’s.

The colors in my customs are as follows (feel free to copy):

Orange 0.50, #TeamBlueDollar Blue 1, Red 5, Yellow 20, Black 100 (or Brown is a good choice too.)

Am I the only DDLM set owner who didn’t customize denoms? :nailbite:

The default lineup is the best lineup IMO ... no need to reinvent the wheel. If you prefer .50 over .25, change the blue, or better yet, just get ND pink and you have yourself .25 and .50!

The thing is that I will use 20 and not 25. And if I do not go for a green 20, then it could have an impact of the other denoms.

Makes sense. Then I might consider:
  • Yellow Frac (.50 for you)
  • Blue $1
  • Red $5
  • Something other than Green $20 (Purple or Black?)
I agree a green $20 could be tricky for some.

I like that color line up. Except that I'm afraid of dirty stack issues. The sample-loan from @Mr Winberg could hopefully help me decide if it will be a problem or not (imo).

I was actually about to reply to this thread @nostan!!! I think with the DDLMs it does boil down to the artwork you like (and that's personal preference). I didn't like the artwork on the $25 (green) or the pink, so I excluded it. However, if you like pink, I highly suggest cali-style colors with this set:

25c - pink
$1 - blue
$5 - yellow
$20 - black (or maybe purple)

I actually really liked the artwork on the white (but not the white color) and the color (but not the artwork on the purple). I added onto my set with a white 1c chip and a purple 5c chip for when I play with my kids. I'll edit this point in a few minutes with some pR0n...

What is your dirty stack concern. Orange/Red maybe the only one I can think of in this lineup, then you could just do a different color for the half.

I too think the original is great! But it's great fun discussing other combos :)

The ND pink creates dirty stacks issues with the red 5.

Regarding dirty stacks, except the red/pink combo which is a big no-no, I don't think there are any concerns with other combos. Those who own sets are free to correct me, though.

I like that combo.
Yes, blue/pink/grey rocks! @nostan, make no mistake: The reaper chip is dark grey, not black.

Other mighty fine combos for 1/5/[20\25] are
Blue/yellow/purple
Blue/yellow/pink
White/orange/purple
White/pink/grey

@nostan, a word of warning: when you get the samples you'll spend all your free time trying out the 3024 combos for your 4 denoms :)
