Does anyone ever sell used china clays on here? Even though China Clays are about 4 times less expensive than something like Atlantic Club chips, I have a feeling that the Atlantic Club in the end is a much better investment and I will always be able to sell them as opposed to even some of the better China Clays like Majestics.

Any thoughts on that?

People definitely sell used CCs here. But Atlantic Club are much nicer chips. They are true compression molded clay. I would guess that each probably retain a similar percentage of their original retail value in the aftermarket though.

Paulsons, bud jones, etc casino new, unused chips have the highest values generally then used of the same. CPC chips range based on design and appeal but avg around cost for value.... most other chips depreciate or stay at current value (ie depreciating via inflation). Casino used paulsons trade often on this site and there are many sets avail ranging in cost from ~$400 to $ tens of thousands.

That’s good to know thanks. Cuz I was thinking basically if I got a set and decided six months later I didn’t like them I would recoup much closer to the original cost (and quicker) with AC than with CCs

You can also put a Wanted Ad up for AC's and then if you find some, buy them, and don't like them you should be able to sell them for basically the same price as purchase.

Also, get a sample set from CPC.

I have some samples of cpc coming. I probably will end up doing a wanted ad because I don’t need a big set. I don’t play that often and only need like 200 chips. I’m small time but I just want something nice.

I agree, but for the expected quality of a used Paulson priced the same as a new cpc, would you pick Paulson over cpc?

Samples of AC came in and boy are they nice! If it wasn’t for the tinny sound I would buy them right now, but I don’t think there’s anyway to change that.

Definitely recommend going with some samples, my first chip set was not what I expected when I started out. Apache has a pretty reasonable mega sampler with a variety but you should buy several of your favorites to check things like shuffling and sound that you can't check with only a chip or two of each. I ended up with a sampler from CPC and several from Apache like Paulsons (Jack's), BRProPoker Ceramics (Tikis), and Dunes (CC).

Paulson and CPC although are both Clay Chip still felt and sound different from each another
Yeah I’ve noticed that. The feel is just fine but cpc is definitely more tinny than paulsons. Maybe not as bad as ceramics, but certainly more tinny than cc even.

That depends on a few things - the first that come to mind are which Paulson mold (THC always sells better than RHC) and how used (are they bicycle tires or will they still stand on edge?)
The name Paulson carries so much weight here - if resale is a significant concern, Paulson is the only way to go.

Ballpark guesses (and assuming condition and breakdown are good) you will easily resell a CPC set at 75% of retail. China clay is probably closer to 50%. Paulsons are tougher because they don’t have a retail price, but like I said, they’re stupid popular here, so if you didn’t get screwed when you bought them, you won’t get screwed when you sell them.

A lot more than that if it's a legendary design with broad appeal, a lot less than that if it's lackluster and/or highly personalized.

Ok that’s about what I was thinking on resale. Paulsons I’m not worried at all on resale for sure. I bought some of the ms chips that were all rhc bike tires and decided to sell them for same price and they were gone in less than an hour. My only concern with paulsons is the up front cost for same quality as cpc will be too high.

The reason I sold the ms ones was the feel (and concern about lead with little kids running around). Cpc felt much better but the ms ones did sound better by far.

Hi @Hunter_Makoy Fellow Houstonian here. Welcome to PCF.

I'm a big china clay collector. I have samples of just about every CC chip I've ever seen. Plus several playable sets including my primary cash set of PGI 8Vs. Personally I like the older CCs like 8Vs and Spirit mold over the newer ones currently sold at retail. Here's a very large and very inexpensive set than sold in the classifieds recently.

There is a pretty decent market for many of the popular CC designs, so I think your initial idea of buying a used set and then being able to recoup most or all of your money when you resell is a valid one. You'll certainly lose more if you buy new CCs at retail.

PM me if you want to discuss in more detail, or if you'd be interested in seeing and handling a large variety of CCs. Or if you want to talk Houston home games, which I'm always looking for. Unfortunately I don't host right now, but "Have chips, will travel!"
