Headed to a game hosted by a friend this evening, and there has been talk of playing a game called "seasons" that I am not familiar with. Did a quick search on here to no avail.

Anyone familiar with the game? From the context of the discussion, it appears to be a game that is ripe for significant sized pots and heartbreak, and something to do with having a card of each suit in your hand being desirable.

Thanks for any insight

So they tried to explain the game, and while in principle it didnt seem too difficult there was some significant ambiguity/disagreement at the end of the hand that has caused some heartache and discomfort.

This is a draw hi/low game in which the players are dealt 4 hole cards each, with three draw rounds of as many cards as each player desires. to have a qualifying hand to win anything, you must end up with one card from each of the 4 suits in your hand. Each draw round is followed by a betting round. We played with a $5 max bet, with up to 3 raises each betting round of $5 each.

After all the draw rounds have been completed, each player declares whether they are going high/low/both, with the last person to bet/raise in the prior hand declaring first. If you declared "both" and did not have both the high hand and low hand, you won nothing. Those without a qualifying hand simply muck their cards. If there are no qualifying hands, then shuffle up and start over, with more draws and betting rounds.

At the end, there were 2 qualifying hands that contained one of each suit, but lack of clear explanation on hand rankings at the ourset caused about a 15 min delay in the players "declaring" and confusion even after they declared. The ambiguity related to whether a hand of A234 was both the nut low AND would count as a higher hand than a 5678 straight. There was no dispute over whether or not that was the nut low hand, only on whether or not it also qualified as the high hand.

The player with the A234 had to declare first, and he declared "both". The other player declared "high", and he ended taking down the whole pot (as his straight was higher than the A234).

Has nobody else ever played this game, perhaps by another name?
