Rounders 2 Won’t be Made Says Matt Damon
https://www.pokertube.com/article/rounders-2-won-t-be-made-says-matt-damon

"The international box office” is to blame, says Damon, with “movies that are big and really understandable to people all around the world, across language and culture… white hat, black hat, superheroes. It makes total sense, right? Everybody knows who the good guy is and who the bad guy is. They spend $400 million and blow a lot of shit up.” He admits somewhat sadly: “You can’t put Rounders into a movie theater up against that stuff!”

I had an idea for a script like everyone else, I thought it would be cool if Mike went to Vegas, became a poker legend, and became best friends with Doyle Brunson. Sound familiar?

Mike goes to Vegas, busts out of the WSOP ME in 3,948th place, and settles in to a cash poker routine.

After a few months, he realizes it's no fun to spend 60 hours a week grinding low- and medium-stakes poker just to make a so-so income that gets decimated by taxes anyway (and with no benefits or job security).

Closing scene shows Mike at the Mirage, but he's dealing instead of playing.

Also, post-credits bonus scene shows Worm getting beaten to death—Casino-style, in a corn field—by Roman, Maurice, the cops from the "municipal workers'" game, and the guy in prison who warns him that his bullshit will come back to haunt him.

While waiting forever for Rounders II: Electric Roundaloo, try the Showtime series Billions, same screenwriter (Brian Koppelman). There’s only one episode with poker—it’s mainly about law, money and sex—but there’s a lot of the same spirit to it.

Don’t tease me. I personally don’t have much use for Matt Damon one way or another, but I’m buying/watching anything with Ed Norton. Would really love if they came out with a sequel that focused on Worm.

Mike should have played the Kings.

I’d suggest Netflix, Amazon Prime or YouTube explore a Rounders 2 concept - maybe more like Cobra Kai mini series reworked Karate Kid. That one is totally niche

I'm trying to figure out how Worm changed his name, won a World Championship in poker (probably cheated), and then fleeced millions from Full Tilt customers. Poker jesus, my ass.

Funny this topic comes up...a friend of mine who makes indie movies and I actually came up with an idea for a Rounders 2 at one time. Our idea started with using actual footage of Damon at the WSOP to show it as Mike playing. We would write it to show that in 97 he had a deep run and busted out right before the final table and after that and his heads up match with KGB, became a NY legend.

The whole movie then revolved around another up and coming young kid in NYC playing the underground scene. None of the original characters would be in the story, only mentioned. KGB was still around but kind of as a myth/in the background kind of deal. I think our plan for Worm was to say he moved to LA and was apart of the underground scene there.

Nothing came of it though. We had ideas and wrote them down and at one point had a all too over the top dream to do a low budget, made for YouTube type movie, but obviously it never panned out.
