I'm pretty new to PCF and am looking at getting my first set.

I'm seriously considering the Roadhouse Hotstamps they have for sale at Apache (https://www.apachepokerchips.com/product/500-roadhouse-casino-tournament-paulson-set/), as I really like hot stamped chips. I know that these same chips were available from the Chip Room a while back as well.

However on PCF I've seen a lot of talk about the regular Roadhouse chips, but almost nothing about the Roadhouse Hotstamps. Is there a reason for this? Does that mean these chips at Apache are overpriced or something? I really like these chips (I already got samples) and it seems like an okay price for brand new Paulsons, but it makes be just a bit nervous that no one else has been talking about these. Is there some other factor I'm missing?

I'd appreciate any advice, thanks.

I almost purchased this set, several times.
Here are some of the thoughts that went through my mind during those moments:

__

Obvious Advantages
- Authentic casino chips
- Permanently closed casino; no longer produced
- 'Brand new' condition; mint
- Four denominations
- Complete set, single-purchase
- Paulson manufacturing
- Very strong value; great price - all things above considered

Neutral-Specs. or Perceived-Disadvantages
- Tournament chips; not primary floor chips
- Single colored chips (i.e. solids); no edge spotting, limited color variety
- 'Cold' color scheme; lacking warmer color variety (e.g. yellow, orange, pink)
- Darker color scheme; darker green, darker purple, darker red
- RHC mold; not typically the first-preference mold for high-end purchases
- Hot stamps; not typically the first-preference for high-end RHC purchases
- Origin outside Las Vegas, Nevada - Mississippi chips are lower in priority, compared to Nevada chips

__

For what it's worth:
If someone invited me to a game and hosted with these chips, I'd be psyched.

$1.40 each for a playable set of unused Paulson Casino Tournament chips. Bottom line; I'm very glad I didn't see this a few months ago when I had that much in my USD account.

They are definitely priced to be a chip hoarder's bargain. The colour scheme is the same as my favourite all time tourney set (Casino Gulfport - the best version). They are on the "Reverse Hat and Cane" mold (RHC) - not my fav.

If you're worried about price; don't - they're fine - (bordering on amazing), you won't do better.
If you want a cash set, they're not that.
If you've never felt a Paulson chip, get samples and then you'll really, really want these (probably).
If you're certain that you want a Paulson tourney set, but you're unsure if you will change your mind and not love these as much as you think you will, I think this is an excellent set to take a chance on. You can probably get your money back in the short term (less exchange rate fluctuation and shipping).

The Paulson chips that I bought when I first started amassing chips over ten years ago are some of my favourites that I ever bought - also there were some real dogs in there. It had a lot to do with timing, Aztar Missouri and Bahamia were in the first Chiproom sale I ever experienced. But if you had asked me then which of the chips that I ordered really grabbed my interest, it would have been the gems that I loved by sight (knowing what a Paulson felt like) and it really did work out that way.

Thanks for all the detailed advice. I already ordered samples of these from Apache. I also really love the colours, especially the T5 and the T25. I think this is going to make a great tournament set, which is perfect for my purposes. I also really love the look of solid colour hotstamp chips. I think I'm going to order these. Thanks again for the help.

I would say that the biggest issue with this set is the breakdown:

T5 - 100
T25 - 200
T100 - 150
T500 - 50

I’m not very experienced in structuring tournaments but it seems to me there are way too many 25s, making the set unecessary big (expensive).

For a STT with this set I would do T3000 with 10/10/12/2. Leaving you with a full rack of 25s not needed.

I don’t really see a good way to strech the set to cover more than one table with this few 5s. And I don’t see a good way to make use of all those 25s in a STT.

I could very well be off here, and maybe there are other structures that would work just as well. There are other members here that know way more about this stuff. Perhaps @BGinGA could lend some insight.
