I just read Gavin passed away in his sleep last night.

Ugh... that sucks. Looks like there's a Go Fund Me for his kids...

(Love the Broncos hat, Gavin. RIP.)

If you missed The Circuit/Poker Road Radio, I highly recommend all of the podcasts....he will be missed. :(

Quick note: my username comes from that show.......I may need to relisten to some....reminds me of when "Bunner" (sp?) passed (from the 2+2 podcast), and when Poker Road lost their producer at age ~28 ('Shronk')....... :(

@SeekTheGrail used to play poker with him in the early days. He was from our area. I think they were together in an underground club when the police raided one time, and they went on a Vegas trip together.

RIP Gavin. I remember an old WPT episode where I think he won and his mom was in the audience. His mom was so prim and proper if I recall correctly, I wondered how they could be related. I think Gavin had a somewhat wild lifestyle, still very sad as he was young.

In the early 90s I played with Gavin quite a lot and he was able to start out with the roving charity casino $10-$20 limit HoldEm grind in Kitchener and Toronto and win enough to take a shot at a few tournaments at Foxwoods in 1999 and 2000 which he won and caught the eye of Miami John Cernuto and Eric Lindgren and the rest is history with his move to Vegas!

And we were together the time our underground game got raided by the police after a losing player took a heavy loss and decided to call the cops on us! They at least let us cash out and keep all our money and thankfully there was always a no booze / drugs policy as we had an off duty officer who played in the game making sure we kept it clean!

I also recall Gavin convincing a bunch of us to signup and deposit some money on one of the original online poker sites "Planet Poker" that only ran limit HoldEm and there was this crazy guy nicknamed "Birdguts" on there that followed the rule of I will see every un-raised flop then evaluate. Turned out it was of course Gavin experimenting even then with a unique playing style!

He was always a very cool and friendly guy! RIP Gavin Smith!
