Going to Vegas with the wife two nights May 23-25. Rio and Flamingo are giving rooms away. Are they dumps? Also looking at Paris…

Want to be on or very near the strip so we can walk around a bit.

Open to suggestions.

Paris has Mon Ami Gabi + Bellagio fountain rooms.

Most of the Bellagio side of the strip has a rail that goes to Casinos from Mandalay Bay to Bellagio. I can't remember how far it goes, but it goes at least goes as far as Bellagio. Not sure if that rail is still running> When I was there years ago it was free. Flamingo is best budget. They renovated not too long ago. Sadly the poker room is not there anymore. Personally, I've tried the cheap ones and the good ones. For pretty much the same price if you find a deal, Flamingo is the best at that price range. I wouldn't go anything below Flamingo standards.

Paris with a view booked…almost did a jacuzzi room at NYNY but don’t want to be that far south. If I were alone I’d go to Southpoint. My play gets the resort fee waved and have a big poker room

+10 for Paris. Tried staying at Flamingo last year, room looked like a crime scene. We ended up canceling and going to Paris.

Stayed at the flamingo twice. Both times waited 2 hours plus to check in. Both times I didn't get the room I booked and paid for. Fwiw, this is also true of NyNy. I won't do either again.

My wife loves Mon Ami Gabi. Great memories there and we try to go every time we're in Vegas. Sitting outside under the heat lamps watching the fountain shows, some steak frites and some vino. Good times. People watching can get interesting.

If you're looking to play some cards, Paris is also connected to Bally's which has one of the looser poker rooms on the strip IMO.

That is my after midnight target. Wait till they are good and drunk.

Wow, the Flamingo is that bad?! When they didn’t give you the room you paid for, did they comp you in any way?

I was planning a Vegas trip where I’d stay a night each at the Flamingo, Aria, Wynn, and Caesars Palace. I figured it would look less weird if I was taking racks of chips to sort in my own room.

I'd imagine the old rooms are bad, but make sure you get the renovated room at Flamingo.

Last time I was in Vegas (2016!!!) I stayed at the Flamingo. The room was OK and functional for our purposes but was on the north side of the building and whatever rooftop thing was on the other side of the promenade that leads to the Ferris wheel was loud and remained that way until not long before it was getting light. The worst part was whoever was in the room above us had just gotten one of those hover-board numbers and insisted on using it to tote themselves around their room. tick-tick - thunk every time they came to a stop, which was often. I sleep with earplugs, my friend is mostly deaf, and we both heard it every morning while trying to sleep.

Two calls to the front desk didn't change anything.

I like the location and the generally lower price on the room (more $$ for other things), but will probably find something else next time I get to go.

[EDIT - correcting evil hover-board sound description   :ROFLMAO:]

It was a comped room but wasn’t clean and the ac wasn’t working correctly (in June). When we went to the front to request another room they were not exactly friendly and said they could send a cleaning crew. Well, that won’t fix the ac! They said they could give us another room but said it may not be any better so we walked over to Pairs and they also comped us a very nice room, while being extremely friendly. I should also say that @41Pickup was primary and diamond level. I knew going in it wasn’t high end but was excited to stay there anyways. It was disappointing. I do hear that the newer rooms are nice But they weren’t offered.

No compensation. Either time other than a $50 drink voucher for Tom's Urban at NYNY. Our card was only charged for the lesser room -fees. But seeing as the one time was for our honeymoon, it fell way short of the city view suite we had planned.

I think I’ll probably skip the Flamingo too  :ROFLMAO:

Stayed at Paris for last year’s Chip convention/meetup. Room was solid, front desk staff were great, food options were decent.

About a 10 min walk though Bally’s to the Bellagio and Caesar’s Palace…plan to stay there again next time I’m back in Vegas

Edit: also IIRC the closest monorail stop on that side of the strip is at the Flamingo
