I have been hosting an almost weekly cash game since the beginning of the year. I usually post a few pic each week in various places on the forum so I figured it would be a good idea to have a place to post pics and stories in one place.

For those that haven’t seen any of my other posts about my game, it is a $1/2 $300 max initial buy-in PLO/ Hold’em mixed game. We do allow rebuys up to $500 later in the night as well.

There is a high hand promotion. We collect $2 per pot that hits $30 to fund it. It is usually right around $200 each week.

I provide food and drinks each week.

Here are some pics of the food set up for this week.

wowzzzzers now thats a game, what funds all the food and refreshments, do winning players tip out at end of night?

The Poker action was extra crazy with huge suckouts all over.

I suffered the worst on of the night. We ended up with 4 people all in on the flop of :8c::4c::2h:

I was holding :qc::kc::8s::8h: and of course the second biggest stack called my all in bet of $500 with the nut flush draw and got there on the river. 3 of us had clubs. That one stung!

But I recovered on the very next hand doubling up when I filled on the river. 2 of us got it all in on the flop of 332 when we both hit our dangler 3.

After that I went on a nice heater.

Final hand of the night was crazy. Here is a pic of the board, pot was over $600.

Suck, resuck!! Booked a $770 win for the night.

I collect $1 per hand to fund the food and drinks. I stop collecting at midnight when the high hand is paid out. It is usually about $100. With the cost of the booze that is drank each week it is about a break even proposition.

I have tried to do it by donation in the past and would end up with $20. It is easier this way and the players all like it. They don’t have to worry about bringing anything to the game.

Nice smart idea

Always enjoy your other weekly posts, look forward to following the action here. And by the sounds of your posts you have games with a lot of action! (y)

I grew up down the road in Akron/Canton/Stow and have been in Northwest Arkansas the last 10 years.

Got a bottle of that Cleveland whiskey 2nd from the right from a family member around Christmas. Quite enjoyed it. Nice setup sir!

Looking through my phone I realized I didn’t post about the crazy hand from last week.

This was biggest cooler I have seen so far at my game in Hold’em.

The player with KK said he knew he was behind either the straight or the flush on the turn and that he only saw that the board paired giving him top full house. He said he never even thought about a straight flush as the betting happened on the river even though either the :9c: or the :ac: alone beat him.

River betting went KK leading for $100, AJ raising to $260, KK then insta-shoving all-in!!

The look of befuddlement on the face of the guy with KK was priceless!!

Some of us thought it was going to be straight flush vs straight flush.

Final pot was about $1300.

My game will be going on the road this week. I am going on a “camping” trip with some of my Poker friends, some are bringing their wives/GF. It will be a lot of eating/ drinking as well as poker at night.

Some of the wives/GF will play too so it will be really low stakes 25/25c blinds, probably as small as $20 buy-ins.

I figure this is a great chance to use my Club House 25c and $20 chips that haven’t seen the felt in a long time. This will also be my first time getting to use the PCF table topper.

800 chips, cards, cut cards, button, andsmall bills all packed for the trip.

Big winner for the night. 25/50c Hold’em only sadly as a few players wouldn’t play PLO (or any other game).

I don’t remember much of the action from any of the nights as we were all drinking a lot. I know there was a lot of bluffing and some slow rolling.

Lasts nights game was s great shorthanded one. There was suooosed to be 7-8 players but again a few players canceled or just didn’t show.

We edged up 5 handed but one of the players burned through $750 in two hours and left. The 4 of us left played until 3am then 3 handed until 4 am.

At about 11pm we decided to drop the Hold’em orbit for dealers choice. But since we were all so deep (over $1200 average Stack) and most of don’t know the games we put a $100 cap per player so nobody would get too hurt in any one hand. It worked well, we all enjoyed trying some different games that we haven’t played much.

We played SOHE, Hollywood, Razz, PLO8, Big O, triple and single draw as well.

It was a very fun night and I did pretty well.

In for $300, final stack.

You are killing it every time you post, but are you killing it literally? I don’t know how this game can be sustainable for you (unless you just don’t post when you lose)! Anyway, nice haul as usual.

I haven’t had a game in 3 weeks sadly. Last week was our camping trip game, but that was only 25/50c Hold’em. I fell asleep at the table it was so boring to me.

I am having trouble filling the table though. I had 8 signed up but only 5 showed.

If attendance doesn’t improve in the next few weeks I will either go to every other week or start to mix in some tournaments to try to find more players.

I really need to get to the casino to scope out some guys, but that is time consuming for sure and I just don’t have it. A few of my regulars have been trying but not much success so far.

The players that did show last night and I talked about attendance. They all can’t figure out why more people in our group aren’t playing in the game. They told me it is the best run, nicest room, best amenities in the area and really good action!

All of the players that came from the old Thursday game I was playing in have all dried up with the exception of 1 that will play on occasion.

Most of them are now playing in a high raked ($6/max) Hold’em only game. Nobody has won more than $200 in it yet! They would rather play that game spending $100 in rake hoping to win $100-200 than play in my game where the average for the big winner is always over $1k.

I guess they realized they are all fish and only want to swim with each other. One of the guys told me my home game is the hardest one he has ever played in. He is a long term losing player but he is smart enough to know when he is out of his league.

It is my experience that ALL regular NL games at $1/2 will eventually die out with the same players. A game needs at least 60-70 people to maintain a full table and you will need to constantly replace 10. It is unsustainable at a weekly and sometimes monthly cadence. It doesn’t matter what they tell you, people don’t like risking a few hundred dollars every week. They will always act like they want to play every week but then eventually start mysteriously having things come up that prevent them from coming. That or no shows.

Hell, I lost a few regulars at my neighborhood game when I went from $20 tourneys to $.25/.50 with $40 buy ins!! All the sudden they can never make it and they only lost maybe $60 max at any cash game they played.

Fear of loss isn’t always associated with income level either. I’ve played with wealthy guys who leave after loosing $200 and working class people who have dumped $2000 at $1/2 games. Some are even more embarrassed from losing than worried about the money.

Limit poker is the only savior but unfortunately I think that boat has sailed. People are to stubborn and macho to play it. It was the only way to play poker in a casino for 100 years but suddenly isn’t cool anymore. I’ve said it here and I’ve said it since 2005 - no limit is killing cash poker.

Earlier this month I had a $4/8 mixed Limit game and still had 3 people cancel or just not show on me!

I know if I offered a $100 max buy-in Hold’em only game I could get 7-8 players every game pretty easily. The problem for me I don’t enjoy playing only Hold’em, especially at those stakes. For me it would need to be $2/5 for Hold’em only.

If I don’t get at least 6 players this week for the $1/2 plo/Hold’em game I’ll probably make that game just once a month. Try to do a $4/8 Limit game once a month and mix in some tournaments to use as a recruitment tool.

I agree about needing a very large player pool, I sent out 60 invites to get 7 players to say yes and still lost some of those.

Another idea a player mentioned to me was to offer Insurance to players in a big pot to help control the big swings.

I’d prefer players run it multiple times but I have several that won’t at all. I understand their reason for it too.

I sent out texts this afternoon for this weeks game and have 8 people confirmed already! There are several regulars that didn’t even get back to me yet.

It will be interesting to see if many of them cancel in the next 2 days or I end up scrambling to fill seats Thursdsy afternoon.

Love the thread and updates. About sustainability, maybe try a spread limit with overs buttons? My stakes are not as big as yours, 25¢/25¢, $5 max to $10 overs but maybe extrapolate that to suitable stakes for your game?

I find that the spread limit helps and overs allows some guys to play bigger without putting others in an uncomfortable spot, money wise. Just talking aloud.

Second biggest pot at my game to date.

I 3 bet to $60, 4 callers, $300 in the middle.

Flop is pretty good!
I bet $300 and get 2 calls!!
Turn is perfect!!!
I jam the river and they both call of course because of the size of the pot now.

We run the river 3 times and hold all 3 times.

Sounds pretty damn juicy. 3 bet pre with 4 calls, and Q95ccc9 drawing to 2 Queens or running 5s after the flop.
