A lot of the appeal to me in hosting games is to indulge in almost stereotypical manly classiness (smoking cigars, drinking nice scotch, pretending to be wealthy and poweful) while the rest of the time I'm your stereotypical millennial vegan English major hipster...

This is what excited me about picking up a set of Casino Royale custom chips from @detroitdad a couple years ago. Who has more style and class than James Bond?

A recent burgeoning interest in cigars has drawn my attention to Cuba, of course, and the wealth and power and class there, to me, is best exemplified by the mafia-run casinos of the 1950s. A connection to The Godfather and the Corleone family attracted me to designing a custom set based on the Casino de Capri in Havana. (This set is still being designed; I was going to seek outside help, but after putting some work in on this Gatsby design I may be able to tackle the Capri set on my own.)

Already owning a Casino Royale tournament set, it made sense to have a cash set also based on James Bond. This brought me to asking @Phantom if I could use his Blades design to make my own cash set. He very politely said that I could not, and it inspired me to find a new cash set idea that had the same amount of power and wealth and class to fuel my delusions...well, being an American and an English major, I almost immediately thought of Mr. Jay Gatsby.

There is still some work that needs to be done (not to mention I need to acquire these Noble Games Paulson chips), but I'm quite happy with how the first attempt turned out.

I would love and welcome any feedback members here may have.

i can’t stand those noble chips but the base chips with your designs look great!

I'm wondering about the blue and green getting mixed up...it'll depend on your lighting. Also, wondering about the $20. The highest denom usually doesn't get lost, but it might be hard to distinguish between the fracs in softer light. Those with Nobles can give you feedback.

But thumbs up on going with white ones!

I was just about to post that. With out a big difference in edge spots I see it being a problem.

I also agree with this.

Since you asked. Only since you asked. I don't like the design on the inlay. I think its entirely too busy. I also don't care that the denoms are different sizes. I would try to find a way to make them all the same size (preferably the size of the one dollar chip).

Why a 25c and a 50c chip? Having 2 denominations so close in value doesn’t help playability of the set st all.

Perhaps make the green a $25 chip and make the grey chip a non-denomination chip that you can use as a nickel for really small games or a $100 chip for big games.

I agree with both of these things. I will try to have the front become a bit less busy, and while I was trying to attempt a bit of progression on the denom side I think some of those could lose some of their business.

Thank you for the feedback.

Right now the set I'm hoping to purchase has 90 blue, 60 green, 150 white, 149 red, and 25 gray. We only play .25/50 -- my thought was that the 60 green chips become an extra 120 quarters so change is not always having to be made with only 90. This is certainly a case of designing the denoms around the available chips.

I did consider using the reds as .05, but we never play stakes that low. We also never have enough to justify needing more than 149 $5s and 25 $20s.
